Bisram is a teacher

Dear Editor,
For the information of those who may still harbour any doubts, please note the following: I have personally known Vishnu Bisram for 16 years and in all those years I have known him to be a teacher. In fact, he was teaching long before then. I know the name and location of the school at which he teaches and I know the name of his principal. I also know that Bisram is licensed to teach a variety of subjects (not unusual among American teachers), in addition to having an assistant principal’s licence and a principal’s licence (in fact I know many teachers who obtained administration licences but decided against becoming administrators, including a very good friend of mine, who incidentally is also a Guyanese from Georgetown).

I also know that NACTA is a DBA (doing business as) for a legally registered entity. NACTA does not have a website because its members indicated they did not see the necessity to have one. Besides Bisram and Vassan Ramracha, I personally know a few other members of NACTA and am aware of their activities. In fact, I attended some of their meetings in the early nineties and have had interactions with some of them on many issues over the years.

Given that Bisram is a teacher it would seem valid to wonder how he does so much travelling. But there are ways to accomplish this; not counting vacation time, I myself have done a fair amount of travelling, especially to tourism conferences in the Caribbean.

I have been following Bisram’s polls for more than a decade, having published the findings of many of them in The Caribbean Voice, and with one or two exceptions he has usually been quite accurate, even while other more prominent pollsters were wrong. I know of polls that Bisram has done in St Lucia, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Fiji, India, Antigua, Dominica, etc.

I also know of Bisram’s involvement in many community activities and of a number of organizations that have honoured him, The Caribbean Voice having covered these events over time.

Mr Editor, all of the above are facts and while anyone is free to accept or reject them, any individual’s rejection would not negate these facts.
Yours faithfully,
Annan Boodram

  1. Ghost Rider UNITED STATES says:

The Bisram issue is as corny and boring as the reports he files on the East Indians celebration of Phagwah and Diwali in Richmond Hill.

Mr. Boodram, you’re just adding more distaste into the issue. Yeah, we know Bisram is all of that. Bisram is not on trial. His life is not threatened. And we know he is the best journalist here in New York, the one the president and his men fear (sic).

    Enough already. Please.

  2. La vie est bonne! CANADA says:

Boodram spare us your babble that’s not worth the paper it’s printed on nor space on the net.

You claim this NACTA is doing business as…oh, come on in this day and age any polling organization would not shroud itself in such mystery unless it has something to hide. This is highly questionable and troubling at best.
Bisram’s polls are suspect to say the least. He would not reveal how the polls are conducted and what methodology is used.
It continues to boggle the intelligent mind why SN keeps printing anything from this chap Bisram.

    • German UNITED KINGDOM says:

Have you ever thought that Bisram my have some sort of business ‘relationship’ with Stabroek News. How else could he be given legitimacy when so much mystery surrounds NACTA. Come on Stabroek News tell us why he’s to be believed.

Anyway I could conduct a fairly accurate political poll by just walking down Regent Street !!!

  3. Berkeley Van Bowen CANADA says:

Anyone can claim to be a polster, as is the case with Vishu Bisram. What is not acceptable is for newsmedia such as SN to ligitimize his status by consistantly publishing his highly questionable polls. If SN feels compelled to do so, they should defend Mr Bisram’s credentials.

  4. Irreverend GUYANA says:

I’ve always had a little respect for Annanji. Now I’m going to drop the ‘ji’ and call him plain Annan . Specific address for Vishie’s workplace and NACTA. SPECIFIC AND EXACT AND PRECISE, like in lot number, street number, burrough, zip cope, phone number etc. Or just HAMOSH! CHUP! BAS! BAS!

  5. Mainlandweb.com CANADA says:

First of all, let me say that I do not like to get involved with the politics of Guyana, but NACTA polls have been very close to actual results for Guyana and Trinidad elections. I have not followed the others, such as those for Antigua, St Lucia and so on. A link to a page with all the polls conducted by NACTA, or some of the polls relating to us is necessary. In this way we can see what were the actual results against the predicted results. We can also tell visitors about how the polls are conducted.
Why not post all the polls relating Caribbean issues as a blog or so? There are also free poll generator codes that can be inserted into ones blog so you can conduct online polls. Guyanese seems to be the last to take the internet serious and see the importance of a website. Bisram, pay app $10.00 per annum to any registry for your domain name and app $40.00 per annum to any host for server space and let’s get a basic website in html set up. I will do for free. You can submit your own artwork if you want. Yes, there are some hosts that offer disc space for as low as $1.00 a month, such as http://www.3ix.org, but their servers go down very often.

    Boodram,
Nobody believes a word Bisram or his polls, or his phantom NACTA says.

Give it a rest already. All of this is beginning to bore people.

Boodram….you, Vassan and Bisram will never wear Freddie out. Your letter is directed at the professor. I am anxiously waiting for Freddie’s reply.
