Dear Editor,
There seems to be a disconnect between Guyanese behaviour and government attempts to build and maintain a measure of progress. Fires caused by public mischief or negligence, vandalism, poor maintenance of valuable equipment and poor attitudes affect progress and public morale. Sugar workers must learn the difference between low pay and no pay, a shift from 15 to 14 ½ per cent is not a compromise.
Perhaps, a profit sharing/ bonus plan should be considered. Guyanese must recognise there are consequences to every action, and think before acting. The President must demand more accountability from ministers, public servants and security officials on apparent failures in government services and responsibilities. The absence of timely official information leads to hearsay and speculation in the press, further damaging the public confidence in government.
Yours faithfully,

They have been taught this year in year out by the PPP when the PNC was in government. Easy lesson always good fuh dunce, old poeple say. So tell me how easy would it be for them to disern the difference?

The letter writer’s first sentence is very englightening, except for the word “seems.” How about “definitely” instead?
The rest of the development is a bit elliptical. There are some nuances here and there with a tinge of pro-government’s activism. In other words, you want to have it both ways, just in case ….
I do not applaud your skills nor your courage. But it’s a nice try, no wonder you wished to be anonymous.
there is a diconnct because there are unrealistic expectation.maybe these raises should be tied to production increases.

Guyanese must demand more accountablity from the government.
Guyanese can only do this when they demand higher standards in every place of business. Respect comes with the quality of service you get, and what you accept as good or bad.
