Dear Editor,
Like Vidyaratha Kissoon, I too am dismayed and shocked that Guyana has made it official that alcohol is part of our culture by having an official beer and an official rum as part of our cultural presentation to the world.
It is even more amazing that on one side of National Park, we have the Carifesta Avenue lined with banners advertising the official rum of Guyana and right inside the park, we have an Islamic exhibition.
Yours faithfully,
N Bisnath

Yes, I agree with you! Having said that, I must admit, being a recovering alcoholic now for 16 mos & 6 days, I would have been thrilled with their actions!
My late husband & I, loved to drink with friends, family, workmates etc., for 30 yrs.
Both extremely healthy, well employed, excellent records, never even a sick day off work. Then BOOM, we were both hit severely with permanent Grand-Mal Seizures, brought on ONLY FROM DRINKING !!!
& there is NO cure for this !
By taking this action in Guyana, they are giving their encouragement to the YOUTH! It’s bad enough that many in my age group have destroyed our health, but we CAN’T let our kids & grand-kids do the same !!!!
cocaine is not ad. and the youths pay more and use more
please explain this.
Drinking alcohol in moderation is, except in the case of pregnant mothers, good for one’s health. It is only excessive drinking that is harmful.
We have the Best Rum in the world, we boast about that , don’t we. I tell people that, and I certainly don’t see a problem with that.
With that comes an interesting discussion of the sugar plantation and the slavery. O, Did I tell u we even have Chinese in Guyana? Indians too, and Portuguese who came as Indentured Servants…
Go take a drink man Bisnath….
There is nothing wrong with advertiseing rum. This is a business. If you do not want to drink , don’t. People advertise panties all the time but I do not wear them.
