Dear Editor,

It is as I feared; some foreign visitors are having a frustrating and difficult time in the attempt to get tickets for Carifesta.

A friend of mine came from one of the islands for Carifesta. When he could not get tickets after queuing up he got so frustrated he almost went back on the plane. He only got through after going into the ministry and creating a big fuss after questioning whether this event is for Guyanese alone.

Why were tickets not distributed at the airport to visitors coming in for the event? I also received a visitor from Europe and she does not have any tickets. I went to the National Cultural Centre this morning to get tickets and learnt that they were not giving out any more tickets (at least at the time).

It is very embarrassing for me and for Guyana. The organisers need to find a way to help our visitors to access and enjoy Carifesta and their time in Guyana – and they need to do this fast!

Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)

What a mess , they should have been handing out tickets at the airport I agree and also at hotels VISIONLESS GOVT.

      The Carifesta tickets are FREE,

therefore nobody can say that they are being marginalized because they could not afford the entry price.

As for the visitors, one ticket per person should be issued on arrival at the airport as part of the welcome by the Ministry of Tourisms.

Have you ever heard the saying; “Guyana is for Guyanese,”

well I had heard that back in 1999, when I tried to portray myself as more valuable to the country than that of the average man in the street in Georgetown.

I was told by the Permanent Secretary; “it matter not how low a station in life a man or woman is; “Guyana is for Guyanese, and they comes first, it is the Government duty to put its people first.”

Visitors are there to give a boost to the economy you visit you spend that is what tourism is about now for the events if you know some one you will get to witness the events it is the way it worked for years that will not change overnight but for a first time visitor sorry somebody was not thinking about that ,only the fact that you are already in the country at the time when Carifesta is going on is good enough that is the main objective .

Shouldone be interested in attending CARIFESTA, I would expect the person to make plans way in advance acquire the ticket in advance especially if the person is going to come from abroad.

Dont blame the Government or anyone. How about concerned Guyanese Citizens setting up a task force to offer advice to those responsible for future events?

What do you think of this new development?

All CARIFESTA X venues except the National Stadium now Ticket Free

THE CARIFESTA Secretariat yesterday announced that all CARIFESTA X performance venues except for the National Stadium will not require a ticket.

Persons are, however, advised that entry to events will be on a first come, first served basis. This decision took effect from yesterday.

It’s so wonderful that Guyana can host Carifesta months after close to 30 people were brutally murdered in Lusignan and Bartica, a man was beheaded, others gunned down…and the number of murders is increasing by the day. Just imagine how great it would have been if the govt. had put as much interest into finding fineman and his gang as they’re putting into this Carifesta business. Robberies and murders continue to skyrocket, yet the Govt. can encourage Guyanese to put on a nice show for the Caribbean and surrounding neighbours. Simply beautiful.

This is nothing new sir, even to the participants didn’t GET TICKETS for their children or families to see them participate in Carifesta x. In addition, I know friends and their children who participants in Carifesta x didn’t GET PAID FOR LAST MONTH, this is ridiculous. CORRUPTION AND DISHONESTY IN THE LAND OF GUYANA. SHAME ON YOU PEOPLE!

SN y’all will be getting lots of letters and memorandums from these people soon I guess. I also would like SN investigate these allegations.
