Dear Editor,
I refer to a letter with the title ‘Management of the .gy domain has fallen by the wayside’ in the Stabroek News of August 21, with the name and address listed as provided to Stabroek News.
Please note that although the University of Guyana is closed for asbestos cleaning, the management of the .gy domain has been unaffected. All transactions with respect to the registration of .gy domains are done online as per information provided on the .gy domain website (registry.gy)
On a daily basis, over ten requests for domain registration services are being handled (registration of new domains, modifications of existing domains and queries relating to .gy domains)
I would be grateful if you could give your writer my email address: admin@registry.gy so that he can contact me to sort out this matter.
Yours faithfully,
Rayman Khan

Since Guyana escaped the clutches of dictator Burnham, the country has changed for the better in magnificent ways.
It has changed in subtle ways too. Take for instance the original comment on this thread that ‘Management of the .gy domain has fallen by the wayside’
This is a technical matter and it is nice to see that Guyanese people and Guyanese businesses do not have to struggle to feed their stomachs so much any longer and that they have time to empower institutions like the .gy domain.
I do sympathise with the original writer’s impatience but I guess it will be a little while more before the INTERNET EXPRESSWAY actually hits Guyana in a BIG way.
Change is coming.
It is nice to see that Mr Rayman Khan from the University of Guyana picked up on this issue and is working outside of his work environment to try and resolve the misunderstanding by using the SN medium.
The hero here has to be Mr Khan with his ‘can-do’ attitude.
I have not heard much of the .gy domain. I am sure that is costs much more than TLDs (Top Level Domans), such as .com, .net and so on. Most Registries in the US and elsewhere, such as Enom and Internic offer packages to agents who really recommend and push these names. .tt and .sr domains are not as popular as .com, so I am not too upbeat about the .gy domain.

Price has a lot to do with this thing. You can register a Top Level Domain for as low as US$5.99, however, I am sure that a .gy domain cost thousands of GT dollars. You lower the price and investors would pour some money into it.
By the way, I have .limacol.com, nestle.tv, ainlim.com, casareep.com and hundreds of others. It is an expence I am bearing for sometime now. A showdown is looming in the near future with some who are now waking up, but when we “reach that bride, we will cross it”.
Names such as beers.com, heinekein(spelling?).com had been rigistered for a few dollars a few years ago, and were recently sold for “good cheeze” lately.
limacol.com is an ideal name for a mineral water. Nestle.tv is another nice name. It is not anybody’s trade name. It is an English word that means to snuggle or cuddle.
“Yuh touchin my turf now”!

The .gy domain name may not be as popular as the .com, .net, etc. but it is very important for geo-targeting if the main audience for a website is Guyanese.
