Dear Editor,
I’m perpetually amazed at how Mr Vishnu Bisram could bring himself to write letters like the one he wrote entitled, ‘A great speech from Hillary Clinton.’ We all know Mr Bisram is a foremost cheerleader for Hillary Clinton, but this one tops them all. “Hillary gave the best speech they had ever heard,” was one of the comments he was told by “many Guyanese” (Where? In Guyana or the US?); “a perfect speech,” is how he characterized it. The speech was ok and served its purpose of trying to create a sense of unity with the presidential nominee Mr Barack Obama, but the best speech ever? That is a very humorous assertion.

Mr Bisram went one to tell us that the ‘Guyanese’ he spoke with insisted that Obama should have selected Hillary as the vice-presidential candidate and they would not be voting in November because of this judgmental lapse on Obama’s part.

This is comical stuff and crying over spilt milk is pitiful. I really hope they change their minds and not lend to a McCain victory. Would you ask your ‘Guyanese’ poll sample, Mr Bisram, what the differences are between Clinton and Biden?

Why does Hillary have to be on the ticket for them to vote for Obama? And what is the rationale for them when it comes to voting? Is it for an individual (Hillary) or for the country and their personal welfare?

Finally, Obama’s poll numbers would not climb over the next week because of Hillary’s “perfect” speech, but rather, as is customary, from the media hype and coverage of the Convention.
Yours faithfully,
Clinton Urling

Thank you Mr. Urling, for taking the time to help expose Vishnu Bisram.

It won’t be long before he puts out a poll or writes a leter telling readers that most Guyanese he spoke with are going to vote for John McCain.

Bisram is a Guyanese who lives and teaches in New York, but that’s where his reality ends. After that he enters into a world of fantasy.

  2. Ghost Rider UNITED STATES says:

Yup. Mr. Bisram is in a class all by itself. As Diplomatic Editor of Caribbean New Yorker, he oversaw the drive to push Hillary Clinton down our throats.

When Obama won the nomination, his paper quickly switched to a rabid anti- Obama position with tons of pro Mc Cain coverage.

    Go Bisram, go.

  3. Queen UNITED STATES says:

maybe bisram should conduct a poll to determine who really cares to read his opinions!

…. let me be emphatic,, and in no uncetain manner,, make clear ,, that my post here is in no way a pillar of support to the disgraced person some call vishie bhai,,

the reason,, — not only G’nese who have bcome “yankified” — but many others who look at the “issues ” and who are convinced that a winning ticket was /is Hillary and Barack ,, to solve our problems wherever we r on the rock ,, her with her vast experience — for which there is ,, was,, or ever will be any substitute — but i think she would have refused ,, if he had offerd her the VP ,, tho,, i think a decision was made for her to take up a cabinet post ,, with history on his side ,,
this election is his to lose ,, he’s on a roll ,, and with him on the shoulders of Bill and Hill,, and to some extent Chelsea ,,he should be able to ride the crest and come out on top ,, closer look shows ,, his choice of Biden ,, may well be his error ,, and so ,, the “yankifieds” feel they care not to waste their vote…..

just my take ,, none is perfect ,, tho,, we have been advised to “strive for perfection “……

  5. gap1 UNITED STATES says:

Well now that Sarah Palin’s Mc Cain’s VP’s pick is making a beeline for the 18 millions Democrats who voted for Hillary it suddenly makes sense, doesn’t it?

I have seen a Black president in Guyana already and more disaster came of it than good, so there. Been there done that!

I am dougla, not an Indo Guyanese and I am not voting for Barack Obama. So there! I have said it! So Mr Bisram, you may be right about this one!

Reason: I don’t like him and I think he is as big an empty suit as Bush is. And if he sticks his nose any further up in the sky, he’ll be Master Willy topling over.

All my years since coming to the US, I have voted for Democratic men and it seems that everyone else has rights in my party than any woman who steps up and says to us Dems, I want to be your president. Well I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore!

The stiffling sexism in the media and in the Democratic party against Hillary was personal and not even Hillary will convince me to vote for Barack, no matter what she says. i’d rather have a yelling match with her but I will still respect and admire the fact that she shattered 18 million glass ceilings in America. She will always be my hero!

This year I will again vote for my own self interest, the first woman VP. Democratic women 34-50 years old, according to polls, are the most stubborn coming back to the Dems men. Well guess what? They are not all White women! Most of the women in my family can’t stand Barack, and nearly half of them are Black!

Wake up you ostriches! That is the reailty, no hype! And guess what? The convention is over and I still think he’s an empty barrel who makes the loudest noise!

    • bgsbny UNITED STATES says:

….. YO ! GAP1,,,,, u ought to be ashamed of urself to call the inexperienced Sen. from IL an empty drum ,, and for being honest with ur opinion ,,
in my opinion ,, the brilliant move by McCain ,, will surely attract the vote of many of the 18 million who felt ,, that Hillary would by leaps and bounds make a better president than Barack ,,

Will no one rid me of the idiocy of Mr. Bisram. We read through his letters– Guyanese are celebrating Phagwah in NY. Guyanes are celebrating Eid in NY. Guyanese are celebrating Diwali in NY. Guyanese are travelling to Inda for ‘groundings’ etc.
Guyanese Mr. Bisram?. Who are these Guyanese? Oh! you mean East Indians.
They are the Guyanese. The other races, ethnic groups, religions, tribes, etc. are merely interlopers, occupiers and sojourners in Guyana. Ridiculous.
Now, here we have a political candidate, albeit of the African persuasion who is bright, smart, intelligent and can think quickly on his feet. A candidate who has an engaging personality, a killer smile, a wry sense of humor, excellent oratorical skills, graduated from the right universities, worked his way through the system from the community level to national level. Did everything the dominant culture damands of its citizens and then some —- a nuclear family.
Yet, Mr.Bisram and his ilk emotionally dismisses Mr. Obama. I guess if Gov. Jindal was on the ticket, we would have been reading a different polling result.

    • Kevin UNITED STATES says:

Gap1, Even if you had a credible argument (which you obviously don’t) the fact that your political views are so polarized is both divisive and typical of Guyanese (as your history show). Your country (Guyana) has a bountiful arsenal of recourses but because of prevailing mentalities like yours is among the poorest nations in the world. In the 1960’s your country had a world class education system, which was the envy of many nations, and event today – most Guyanese I know are extremely brilliant. However, people with perspectives like yours will forever be a hindrance to the development of any nation, especially Guyana. People who think like you have absolutely no place in the American we’re aspiring to create, the America JFK strived to build or the America MLK dreamed of. Further Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton. The only thing they have in common is their gender; on the issues they couldn’t be more different.

    • justice4all UNITED STATES says:

I have seen an Indian President in Guyana and we are still last in line in virtually every developmental category.

Secondly, you guys have to be either myopically obtuse or inherently vapid to acuse Obama of not putting time frames on his proposals. Where are McCains or Hillary Clinton time frames?

The biggest mistake African Americans made is not asking for the results of their struggles and activisms to exclude those who never step up to the plate to make sacrrifices for rights in the US, but step in and enjoy them after they are won, while manifesting the same kinds of mindsets existent in those who were against making those rights universal. Imagine what Richmond Hill and other places would have looked like if AA had taken that position. Imagine where the many who advance these kinds of nonsense would been in Guyana. Talk about biting the hand that provide historical food and succor for you.

Call me Bisram’s ilk. I don’t mind,. It doesn’t matter that I have beaten up on Bisram more times on SN and other forums more times than you would ever dream of.

No Palin is no Clinton, but I voted for Clinton and I am a Clinton supporter. I bet you voted for Obama. So do me the favor. Try learning first about us true voters to the cause of shattering that glass ceiling, before addressing me, because we are smart gals, we know how to take on the old-boys club all by oursleves and win! Snd try not to be too paronising to the Hil. You needs her now won’t you–All you Hillary bashers!

You are right. Palin is no Clinton but Palin is Palin and she has just energised us Hillary gals today, and I swear, if Senator Clinton gets in my neck of the woods asking us to support Obama, I will have the screaming match of a lifetime with her, even though I remain a true Hil gal and she remains my hero.

Sorry all of you Obambaniacs. Your little empty-barrel who makes the most sound, gets us, the 34-50 Hillary gals all…In his dreams! LOL!

    • Kevin UNITED STATES says:

Sorry to disappoint you but I am as pale as they come and a stanch republican. I never voted democrat and probably never will. At no point did I say I support Sen. Obama. However, I call a spade a spade. Bigotry and ignorance are ideals embraced by Guyanese politicians – look where such ideals got your country. You confirmed your folly by assuming that I am African American because I objected to your attempts at infusing foolishness and racist remarks in your blog.

    • GREG UNITED STATES says:

By following Gap1 and tonks comments I have come to the colclusion these two persons are trapped in a dangerous web of racial prejudice. Had Obama been of any other race, especially white, they would have proclaimed him to be great.

These two folks are also cockeyed and could only be trapped in biased feminist views to come to the conclusion that pound for pound Hillary can match Obama in political savvy and intellect. It goes without saying that Hillary always had political ambitions but the only reason she is in contention now is because of Bill. She acquired a lot of feminine sympathy because of Bill’s sex scandals. Without Bill she would have faded away years ago.

Furher, even with the Clintons political machine she was out played by Obama. Obama beat the Clinton political machine and no credit is give to him by these two. And these talks about sexism, nonsense. Credit and support must be given to the winner. Or are you folks taking the positions of the US about Jamaicans doping to win in the olympics? Sore losers I say. Further, you are either democrats or republicans. Which are you?

  7. Moshin UNITED STATES says:

I am Indo Guyanese living in US. I am familiar with the Caribbean New Yorker paper of which Mr. Vishnu Bisram is the Diplomatic Editor and a contributor in every edition I have read so far.

This paper I am ashamed to say, is very anti-black, anti-Muslim and anti Obama. Just read it and judge for yourself. Nothing positive about Blacks, Muslims or Obama is ever reported. It is basically a bigoted, pro Hindu paper. Most Guyanese and Trinidad Hindus that I know feel the same way, but it a shame that few speak out.

I am East Indian and last night, I watched Obama delivered his acceptance speech. It was awesome. I am not ashamed to say that my eyes became misty at the end. Racism still exists, but America has come a long way. History ws made last night in Denver because Obama was the 1st African American to win one of he two major parties nomination.

My wife and I will vote for Barak H. Obama and Joseph Biden on Nov. 4th. not because he is Black, but because he is the best candidate.

  8. Carl UNITED STATES says:

Bisram has once again engaged in his usual nonsensical musings. But this time he has been here joined by one or two persons whose sense of belonging, self-validation, and recognition, albeit negative recognition, comes from disparaging persons of African ancestry.

Hey, Obama doesn’t give a hoot about the votes of Bisram or those of his ilk, particularly in New York where they are a disgruntled and disregarded minority.

    • gap1 UNITED STATES says:

It’s all a Black thing with you, isn’t it.

Let me tell you a little story here, Mr African. Last month I bought and sold a certain stock that has been see-sawing in the markets. I made a profit of $10,000. on it. The capital gains tax that i had to pay was a paltry 15% (1,500.) and what I did was collect $8,500.

Obama promised in his economic package to raise capital gains tax to 30%. Had he been in office, my profit would have been $7,000. and his greedy govt would have pushed their hands deep into my middle-class pocket and would have taken a huge $3,000.

Clinton would have raised it to 20% and that was fine with me. Given our present state of the economy, I am willing to take some pain, just not your greedy Obama’s kind!

I am sorry that i would not vote for the empty suit that still does not understand that his policy will affect those at the bottom spectrum of the ladder most when he steps in there to make govt take the money I work very hard to earn. It is my money, not the govt’s. I am willing to pay my fair share of taxes but his proposal is insane.

I could give you a long list of those specific details but I have this suspicion that you may not be inclined to understand much about cpi and ppi and earnings per ration and so on and so forth, and therefore why I believe that I needed somebody who didn’t have to learn about it as they campaigned. I didn’t sense his ignorance at first, I was certain of it!

Now I am Black and I did not vote for him and you may find a thousand reasons why color had something to do with that decision, after all, you did vote for him because of his skin color, but plain and simple, I have this rule; I never vote for someone I am much smarter than.

I see he has impressed you. You can have him!

    • tonks UNITED STATES says:

Carl, are you reading what you are posting? Disparaging persons of African ancestry?

Is Obama the only black person alive?
Is he supposed to be the symbol for all black people?

If I was to use your twisted logic, then if you don’t like a white politican you don’t like white people. If you don’t like a hispanic politican you don’t like hispanics. If you don’t like a person of your own race, you don’t like yourself. If you don’t like a mixed person you don’t like people, period.

      Wow. So smart.

I don’t like him because he’s full of himself. And I don’t like him because if he recieves any critisim, he would, like you, accuse the person of being racist. If someone went up to him and said, “Well, we like your speeches, but can you tell us some of the stuff you’ve done?” he’d probably call them bigoted racists. I don’t like whiny people. So sue me.

And I don’t care if Obama cares about me. I know he doesn’t. Have you heard the guy? He’s a narcassist. He probably doesn’t give a rat’s behind about you, either.

And I don’t give a rat’s behind about him. It’s a win-win situation. I know I’m not racist, so you can call me what you will–after you take the chip off your shoulder.

  9. krk UNITED STATES says:

Seems like Mr. Bisram has managed to attract attention from sources other than Mr.Freddie “Krueger” Kissoon. Just ‘luv ‘ the animated exchanges. Here’s my input.
Joe Biden, Delaware’s loqacious senator, brings foreign policy acumen. This bolsters, to a limited degree, the woefully inadequate Obama.
Unfortunately Biden cannot help Obama in the following areas:
    1. Obama’s inexperience – being a community organiser and an obscure Illinois state legislator will not propel him
2.Obama’s 20 year association with Wright and his church and NOT hearing any inflammatory language from Wright. Should you believe this I have a bridge to sell you.
3.How about the sweetheart real estate deal he allegedly received from a convicted Resko (awaiting sentencing). Hey, maybe he will sing like a canary in return for a reduced sentence. Or do you suppose he will get a presidential pardon if Obama becomes president?
    4. Seems like a consequential percentage of Clinton’s p…off female supporters will vote for McCain.
    5. Forget the baloney about his worldly experience. What experience? Living in backward Indonesia for a few years as a kid? C’mon, gimme a break!
    6. Isn’t Obama biracial – product of a black Kenyan father who abondoned the family when Obama was a kid and a white American mother? He grew up under white influence and values? Take a long hard look at the “fat cats”subsidizing his campaign to the tune of hundreds of millions US$
Are blacks setting themselves up for a big fall by voting overwhelmingly for Obama? Nothing wrong with ethnic pride but………..
7.Remember Biden said Obama is not ready to be president. Will retracting this ring hollow and expose him (Biden) as a hypocrite?
8.Biden cannot and will NOT deliver Ohio and Florida. Obama will not win without one of these states.
9.Don’t you just ‘luv’ the “flip flopperitis” engulfing Obama’s campaign as he changes position with reckless abondon?
    10. The media played a pivotal role in Clinton’s defeat. They tossed soft lobs at Obama and crucified Clinton. Infact several of these clowns were apparently competing to be Obama’s chief jock strap transporter
They will have to do much more !
If I were to venture a calculated guess, I’d say McCain will win and Obama will ride off into the sunset at 47. Since 1960 Democratic presidential nominees rarely repeat.

  10. gtbeat UNITED STATES says:

Simply put ;an Obama & Clinton ticket would have blow the Republicans out of the water.
