He has fallen on hard times unfortunately but the PPP have come to his rescue to have him critiquing the SN and writing responses in the Guyana Chronicle. The man has to earn his keep and I respect the fact that he has a job to do. He has always been a dedicated person to his cause and if you read any of his writings in the Chronicle you would see what I mean; A man has to make a living and so too my friend Degroot. We the wiser ones shold leave him alone and so to SN. Degroot is or was a personal friend.

And his service is not so much to the people as much it is to project and protect the ruling party's image - regardless of which party is in office. For those of you who don't know, Mr. DeGroot was a staunch Burnhamite when the PPP was in the political wilderness crying foul against the rigging and autocracy. To sit and write a letter describing an editorial as taking up a whole 16 inches of column space pretty much reveals a lot about the type of work Mr. DeGroot is doing: Nothing really!
