Dear Editor,

A press statement issued by the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) on Monday,  September 15, 2008, amounted to three pages of letter-size verbiage producing absolute froth. It was an example of confused thinking in a feeble effort to excuse themselves for not attending the presidential meeting with the opposition parties and thereby depriving themselves of a golden opportunity to be intellectually briefed on the serious implications of vital sections of the proposed Cariforum/EU Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

Instead, they attempted to politicize sensitive economic matters to which the President  on several occasions previously alluded, evidently adopting strong positions all in the interest of ensuring that Guyana is not adversely affected. The PNCR must clearly understand that with their abysmal historical past they are not in any position to attempt to lecture President Jagdeo on any matter, but more especially on matters of economic significance.

Most perplexing is the emphasis being placed on the ill-perceived shortcomings of the government in the EPA negotiations, completely overlooking that it was Caricom as a group whose responsibility it was to determine whatever was finally agreed upon in the proposed EPA. Such emphasis is typical of the state of affairs in which the PNCR now finds itself.

Yours faithfully,
David DeGroot

Nooooobody is in any position to lecture king Jagdeo his response is usually to cuss them out so leave the King alone. Jagdeo only reaches out when he wants to USE the persons or organisations he targets for support at his convenience. His mind is already made up, he just wants to put on a circus for public consumption, Guyanese have seen this soooooooo many times before,

i think the cold chilly winters are getting to Badlall.
Go back to Guyana and sho Jagdeo how fuh run de country.
Well we all know PNC tired and dem banas in de PNC run um down.
Dem thief all de people money and dem thief all de loans dem teck.
Does $2.1 Billion in debts ring a bell in yuh ears?
Is it not the same CARICOM countries that stood by and never lift a finger or raised a voice for the masses of Guyanese people when PNC was raping this nation? It is not the same International Comunity of Peace loving Nations that placed the PNC in power and kept it there for 28 years bringing Guyana from the richest to one of the poorest nation in the western hemisphere?
Now you telling us we must dance to EU tune?

Jagdeo is the best thing to have happen to Guyana which is why he has sole and absolute authority on everything.

On the matter of the EPA, he has been parroting whole sale the statements of some prominent caribbean personalities who have rightly pointed to some of the weaknesses of the agreement, wrong in their analysis of the issue and therefore wrong in their recommendations and in some case, contradictory (Sir Shridat while acknowledging the negative impact on Guyana continues to advise on signing that which is not on the table and in terms of the impending fall out has not recommended a strategic position, well, at least, in public atleast). This to me is counter to DeGroot’s contention. It reinforces what the Jamaicans have already alluded to about Jagdeo’s intellectual inferiority to even come up with original notions and formulations given the environment under which the world currently turns. Old time dependency notions of analysis of international relations have been thrown out with the collapse of the cold war ( it was tolerated to get developing countries sympaties on the western side) and has been taken over by a more pragmatic self interest…there is no free lunches any more, days done!

It is not passing strange that he was rebuked seriously (of course with some diplomatic finesse as dressing) by the Jamaican and Barbados prime ministers.

when did those pm’s rebuked him? The man was against this EPA even before those scholars said its not a good agreement for the caribbean.
