Dear Editor,
Once again, I have read in the news of an accident at Pearl, EBD where three young men were involved in a car crash. Safety is everyone’s business and as such we must not close our eyes to wrongdoing. It seems that persons believe that they are immune to these risks and as such continue with reckless abandonment.
For more than two months, it was observed that the driver of a taxi [number supplied] utilizes the parking lot of the new Caricom Head Office for partying and indulging in alcoholic beverages from his car. The volume of music and conversation is, of course, of much disturbance to the residents nearby. The young man who partakes in this weekly activity, with others who live nearby, arrives at approximately 3.30am on Sunday mornings and indulges until dawn.
I am sure that upon leaving this place of entertainment, the level of alcohol in his system will result in him utilizing the road in an unsafe manner which will most certainly result in death to himself, his passengers or some innocent bystanders.
I am appealing, not only to these individuals, but also the law-abiding and responsible citizens of this country to encourage these young men to desist from these foolish acts and be sensitive to the needs and lives of others.
Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)

I once read in these letter columns..the home affairs minister writing a letter to the press citing a law where he and others are not required to wear seatbelts.Seatbelts are everybody business.
I was truely amazed by the arrogance shown by this minister.
I am pleading with SN to reprint this letter at the bottom of this letter so people can read.
yea i think i read that somewhere too….no seat belts for them…tint on their vehicles..hmmmm i wonder if ministers have a no limit on beer consumption too….
It will be a long time coming – when arrogant, stupid ,overconfident young men learn to drive responsibly – as those in authority reward their sons with even bigger vehicles after a crash and bully the victims to drop the cases.
you mean—Learn to steer…….
GT Thinker. You hit the nail on the head, except you forgot to mention that 90% of the time, traffic cops, dressed in civilian clothes, are drinking with these fools.
How about if the government invests in TV advertisements that would teach our over-jealous drivers the etiquette of the road????
Lawlessness ,, mindlessness ,, is the result of the intoxicating behavior of those who consume ,, this very potent poison ,,that is responsible for the mind altering
performances when it is abused,,,
