Dear Editor,

With the latest move by President Bharrat Jagdeo to appoint Mr Irfan Ally as Minister of Housing and Works to replace Mr Harry Narine Nawbatt, who is going to take up an appointment as the Guyana Ambassador to Brazil, the writing is clearly on the wall for PPP stalwart Mr Moses Nagamootoo, that he is not needed in the Jagdeo administration. Both Ally and Nagamootoo are Members of Parliament in the PPP/C government.
When President Jagdeo won the 2006 general election, Nagamootoo was not given a ministerial post. He was made a Member of Parliament. When Minister of Foreign Affairs Rudy Insanally resigned, Ms Carolyn Rodrigues, the Minister of Amerindian Affairs was made Minister of Foreign Affairs. Even when Carolyn Rodrigues moved to the foreign ministry Moses Nagamootoo was not even considered for the post of Minister of Amerindian Affairs. That went to Ms Pauline Sukhai, a Parliamentary Secretary in the PPP/C government. And then Nagamootoo was again by-passed for the ministerial post of Minister of Housing and Water, which has gone to a younger member, Irfan Ally.

Moses Nagamootoo seemed to make a comeback in the PPP when he was elected to the Central Committee, but he was not elected to the Executive Committee from which the 2011 presidential candidate will come.

The latest move by the party has signalled the end of a top post for Moses Nagamootoo in the PPP/C government. Nagamootoo is sixty years old and definitely out as the presidential candidate for 2011 election. By time the election after that comes in 2016, Nagamootoo will be in his seventies, and too old to run for the presidency.

Moses Nagamootoo has been treated badly by the PPP since the death of Dr Jagan. He has been over forty years in the party, struggling side by side with Dr Cheddi Jagan fighting the Burnham and Hoyte administrations for free and fair elections. He felt the wrath of the PNC but never gave up. To see someone like him treated so badly by the Jagdeo administration brings sadness to many Nagamootoo and PPP supporters. Probably he is paying for his sins for walking away from the PPP and telling them he “don with you all,” and because he is a friend of Khemraj Ramjattan and Freddie Kissoon who are critics of the PPP/C government.

Yours faithfully,
Baldeo Persaud

What is important to ascertain is whether Moses Nagamootoo feels and see things the same way.

  2. yasuman71 UNITED STATES says:

Baldeo Persaud may have a point here. After Pauline Sukhai was appointed as a minister, Moses Nagamootoo should have been given the vacant parliamentary secretary position.

  3. SurMot NETHERLANDS says:

Whatever he sees or feels, he is helpless to do anything.
Is the Guyanese populace must see and feel how things are in Guyana.
“You cannot try the devil case in hell, when the devil himself is the judge”
Come on fellow Guyanese, “time for change” and stop such dictatorship in our country.

  4. coolieman UNITED STATES says:

Baldeo good to know that Moses is a friend of Ramjattan the guy that is giving away toilet bowls and uncle Fred the guy that is ashamed to be East Indian , Shakespere said tell me your friends and I will tell you who you are

  5. Evan Thomas CANADA says:

Moses needs to continue to fight for true democracy as a national priority. There can be no sympathy for him from me. He fought Burnham and Hoyte and the PNC, why not Jagdeo and the PPP?

    • Raj of Richmond Hill UNITED STATES says:

Evan Thomas, Shouldn’t Moses have fought the PNC, Burnham and Hoyte?

Shouldn’t you Evan Thomas have fought the PNC, Burnham and Hoyte – to bring back true democracy?

If you yourself Evan Thomas would not fight for “true democracy” then you are a hypocrite.

  6. Raj of Richmond Hill UNITED STATES says:

This is a vendetta against the PPP stalwart, Moses Nagamootoo.

The real question is who is the perpetrator driving this vendetta? He must be a small man with a small mind. But somehow he got the power to execute the vendetta.

Let it be said, sometimes, even such a powerful person with such immense power falls from grace and suffers ignominy.

    • Georgie UNITED STATES says:

Come on! President Nagamootoo! Even the name does not have a ring to it and no one will take this man seriously. Please, like me! like me! What manner of man is he that is perceived to be begging for acceptance.
Also, don’t play that tune that he “fought for the restoration of democracy and freedom against the dictatorship.” If that were the case, then he should ‘go to the mattresses now’ and do the same against this administration

  7. StoneP UNITED STATES says:

Maybe his name is intimidating to everyone…

  8. RDMAN UNITED KINGDOM says:

Mr.Moses Nagamootoo you would always be a voice crying in the wilderness, why couldn’t you do like”Prak”Khemraj Ramjattan who went away and teamed up with Trotman and others and made a great impact in the last elections with the A.F.C if you had joined up with them then things would have turned out differently,Ramjattan were begging you to join their party but instead you run back like a puppy to Freedom House, although you said”a dun wid y’all yo”the P.P.P realize you have nowhere to go now,and Grandpa Cheddi is not there to help you,so you would be used like uncle joe’s old horse.Continue waiting for the next elections,mr.Ramotar already stake that claim. Thanks Khemraj you had the balls to move on your own.

  9. SurMot NETHERLANDS says:

Also grand-pa Burnham, must be now turning in his grave for sure, with much laughter to see his visions for a self-reliant Guyana is coming to pass and a dictator has taken his place.

  10. John Smith GUYANA says:

My philosophy is, I am not wanted in a house, I move and live where I get comfort. Moses is a smart man, maybe he does not feel ostracized in Freedom House. Maybe he does not see or feel things the same as others. The man fought Burnham, guess he is fighting Jagdeo too. Lets see what happens

    • evileyes CANADA says:

Who could have fought Burnham? No one-Zip-Zich-Nada-None-Zero…….it was made to look like all dem bin fighting the Kabaka……looks like–i say….but the man who really fought the big Man ended up getting blitz to bits and pieces…you know who……
