Dear Editor,
Come Saturday, November 8, residents living in the vicinity of the fish shop in Drury Lane will be plummeted, bludgeoned and bombarded into dead meat, further degraded from their present vegetable state – a state in which they have found themselves for three long, excruciating years. (Yes, the dogs in the area will become dead meat also, and the alarms of vehicles will go off non-stop.)
Come Saturday, November 8, they (the operators of the fish shop and by extension the elderly landlady) are planning a birthnight party to end all parties. They have announced their intention ominously and in various ways. Starting Saturday, October 25, they have maintained a regular bombardment from Sunday karaoke to Monday pre-Diwali desecration, to a Diwali night orgy to a post-Diwali pump-up to a happy hour on Thursday to a Halloween orgy − and the beat goes on and on in my head long after the music stops….
They have announced their intention concretely by concreting the reserve (city council or government?). They have cleared the façade of the fish shop and dumped the garbage in the alleyway, also killing the nearby canals by the wanton dumping of cooking residue. They have erected ‘permanent’ tents on the reserve (city council or government?). They have commandeered the reserve from Austin Street to Delph Street and from Drury Lane to the Cummings Canal for a parking lot/urinal, filling the dam with a particular type of material used by certain authorities (city council or government, can’t spare the time to find out, trying to catch some sleep, mekin’ day into night). Scores of vehicles are over-spilling the area – wow, you should see some of the registration plates and identity tags!
They are planning to decimate the residents of Campbellville with this lawlessness, a lawlessness permitted by all the relevant authorities…ha…what’s a box of fish and a beer!
Down with this noise nuisance, or death to us, a people with no voice, a people with no right to peace and quiet and rest….
Complaining apart, the solution is to soundproof all such businesses in residential areas.
When Lord, when would You bring down this wall of crime, this nest of vipers…
Come, Saturday, come to the wake of an urban village (come to the wake and sing some folk songs)…
Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)

According to what the letter writer state here there will be lots and lots of (Big Ones) at this bash….Its a sin to see this advantage taken on iccocent people…..
Loud music from a fish & chip shop?
No>>>>this is absolute nonsense and condoned by higher authorities….This is where an elected Govt are failing its people…Yet another law less vulgar plague…
evileyes, i cant believe you would say that about the govt.
….. to be such a nuisance to any community with the primary pollution being noise ,, they have to be using kilowatts to the max times hours,,, times days,,,, well u get the pic ,, so if a closer look is done at their bills one may bcome shocked to find out that they are just as guilty as many thousands who r doin this ,, every day,, as long as there is power to them ,,
if fairness to the “drury lane fish shop” they probably have their own generator !,, which is a noise pollution that is equally annoying as a continuous blaring of that which evokes ,, orgiastic impulses !……
Find out if this fish shop has the necessary permits to be the following.
(a) Permit to use the building as a fish shop.
(b) Permit to sell liquor.
(c) Permit to have music blaring and open until wee hours.
(d) Has the requirements /permits met for fire, toilet facilities, sanitary facilities.
(d) Proper parking facilities.
(e) Garbage disposal facilities.
you guys are forgetting this is guyana, you dont need permits and all those things , you just need friends
It all speaks for itself and it goes back to the question “what is the role of the city council/appointed officials”? I wonder what area those members live and what are the conditions of those areas. Either way – it clearly shows they cannot care much for their health and environment because everything and everyone is connected and it will ultimately affects everyone either directly or indirectly.
From my point of view with the exception of Sheriff Street; most of Cambellville appears to be one massive Ghetto and let us not get on the subject of Lodge.
That is a crime scene waiting to unfold each day with all of the bushes right on the street corner and all over the place. Buck Bead has made a come back in the city. This was something one only saw growning in the countryside. All of greater Georetown seems like the country and country looks better that the city.
Geogetown has become the lost city. And what about those areas which are inhabited by locals and are not visible to everyone ~ they must be the true forgotten people.
It all about pride!
Actually, an inner city slum.In light of that, crime rates are high. In fact, the entire Georgetown from the Demarara to Sophia is a sprawling inner city slum.
Well put!
