Dear Editor,
Just a few days ago I was walking around my community where I came into contact with some young people who expressed concerns for their future in Guyana. Many felt marginalized, discriminated against and sometimes left out because of their ethnicity. This is evidence that our country is in trouble and is in need of leadership, vision and youth inclusiveness. A change of administration is the only option that comes to mind.

I then expressed to them that all hope is not lost. Betterment may seem a formidable task because of the mismanagement and incompetence of the PPP/C administration, but surely it is surmountable if we as Guyanese put an end to racial voting and confront issues of major concern vociferously. The youths have lost all hope and confidence in the PPP/C administration. The question is, who is able and capable of restoring the hope of young people and relieving them of the epidemics of unemployment, marginalization and discrimination? My answer is simple: Mr Robert HO Corbin. With his experience, knowledge and vision, he is the only viable leader.

His vision is consistent with needs of young people across the country; the vision of a better tomorrow. Rest assured that he has the tenacity and the determination to restore the happiness Guyanese once enjoyed.

Evidence of his determination, commitment and passion for the development of youths is in the implementation of some aspects of the Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES), which has already benefited quite a number of youths and parents in many of our communities.

His vision is second to none, and includes all Guyanese, regardless of race, creed or political affiliation, to quench their thirst for a brighter future. His vision also speaks of a transformed Guyana, recognizing that the onerous demands of managing this country require the collective effort of all: building strong families with healthy values, strengthening communities, enhancing our educational system, and reducing unemployment.

It offers hope through opportunities for persons to develop themselves intellectually, socially, culturally and economically. I am encouraging everyone to read his 2004 and 2006 congress speeches. This is the real vision of a true visionary.
Yours faithfully,
Tandica Todd
Executive Member

Ms. Todd has simply reaffirmed my view that Guyanese historians have done, and continue to do us all a great disfavor. She exults about the vision of and the visionary that Robert Corbin supposedly is. Some honest elder in the ranks of the PNC should get hold of her and educate her about her “visionary.” It is a shame that our young people are so ignorant of our current history and the people who help to make it every day. But a word of solace for Ms. Dodd. You are not to be blamed. It is the people who taught you. It is my generation that has to bear full responsibility for your ignorance. You are obviously well intentioned, passionate and confident in your capacity to be a leader in initiating change in Guyana. Do not lose sight of your goal. However, you need to educate yourself a great deal more if you want to succeed. Remember Sarah Palin!!!! Do not make the same mistake she did.

    • Amarie UNITED STATES says:

Poor Corbin and even poorer Ms. Todd. Is this what “vision” looks like these days? With all due respect Ms. Todd, Corbin couldn’t fight his way out of an open paperbag and his feet are too small for his predecessor’s shoes. He lacks oratorical prowess, his charisma requires a microscope and last but not least he is stuck on the old PNC treadmill. In case you haven’t noticed, people the world over want change not yesterday’s has been or in this case, never was!

    • A. Persaud UNITED STATES says:

There are many Afro Guyanese with Barack Obama potential in Guyana and can genuinely bring about great and needed change in our wonderful country. But with the PNC stranglehold on the nation with their proliferation of criminal endorsements, through various schemes such as freedom fighters, etc. the PPP is made to seem the best hope for Guyana.

Our country greatly needs leaders like Barack Obama who can promote goodwill to all Guyanese irregardless of race.

  2. Paul Rodman GUYANA says:

It seems as though you are the only person who believes that. It is understandable, being that you are an executive member of the now defunct youth arm under his control. Your sentiments is similar to Mc Cains sentiments on George Bush`s policy at a time when american overwhelmingly dissapproved of it and voted resoundingly against it. MR CORBIN IS NOT GOOD FOR GUYANA. He should go. Go girlie, serve your master well. When he goes, you go too

  3. badlall CANADA says:

Good morning Tandica where have you been …..Mr Corbin should step aside he will not be able to win an election in Guyana…The huge problem of race and narco politics cannot be dealt with by either parties …… there needs to be “freshness” of Politics in Guyana SOON or ……Guyana will be doooooomed in short order.

  4. blahblah UNITED STATES says:

I would never ever vote for Corbin. The man is a lame duck opposition leader and all the discrimination this author speaks about,Corbin as yet to get up and stand firm about it. If he Corbin should call a rally today,it will be him and his faithful followers all by themselves.

  5. Fola Smith GUYANA says:

    Mr. Editor
I have said before, that Mr Corbin is trying tirelessly to cement his position as Leader of the PNCR. And here it is only a few hours later, Ms Todd making his case.
Ms Todd nust be commended for the structure of the thoughts and ideas put forward in this letter. However, those who are aware of her obvious skill level will agree that someone is attempting to resuscitate the Party’s letter writing machinery, using the young, inexposed and naive members as signatories.

It is appalling, that this young woman would allow herself to be so misused. Anyone who thinks of Robert Corbin as a visonary, is visionless. Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham was a visionary, Cheddi Jagan was a visionary and Hugh Desmond Hoyte was a visionary. Compared to these men, Corbin falls way below par and can be deemed incompetent.
He has continuously mismanaged the PNCR and it is with this same level of incompetence he will run this country should he become President.
I don’t know who are the young people Ms Todd spoke with, if any at all. But young people are tired of a Corbin run PNCR and like many of the adult members, cannot wait to see his back.
Mr Corbin has succeeded in tarnishing the image of the party and with people like Ms Todd perpetuating his evil to continue, all hope is lost.
Finally, I doubt that Ms Todd read any of Mr. Corbin speeches and if she did, what exactly did she comprehend.
It is time for our young people to have independent thoughts and not allow themselves to be used for the furtherance of any undemocratic process.

    • Cochore UNITED STATES says:

Great observation Fola, but I don’t think that young Ms Tandica knows the meaning of the words VISION or LEADERSHIP and she certainly doesn’t know anything about Corbin’s sordid behavior of old.

  6. SandHurst First GUYANA says:

Tandica gotta be MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD!!!!!!

  7. RDMAN UNITED KINGDOM says:

Nicely said on paper,Robert Corbin needs to be leading those youths on the streets to protest for change and betterment, so they can get jobs in our beloved Guyana,it is being rumored that he is on the P.P.P’s payroll to keep quiet and thus selling out his constituency,we need Hammy Green,Van West Charles and vincent Alexander to take away the party from Corbin, too much lame duck policy, time for action.

  8. Tessa UNITED STATES says:

I hear they don’t teach Guyanese history in school just the geography, what a shame our youths will never come out of the grips of Burnham and Jagan!!

  9. MAVERICK ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA says:

Ms. Todd you are an absolute “nut” I would rather suffer under the current regime as an afro guyanese than survive under a Corbin led administration,Corbin has outlived his usefulness; and as is evident to all but you; and i suppose your friends on that student movement board, this so called leader of the opposition is simply gutless, spineless and devoid of new and youthful ideas, Alexander is really the leader the youths and our country needs at this time, after a lifetime in politics you ms. todd tell me what has corbin done of note, for youths and the advancement of our country,I am sick of sycophants like you todd who prop up mediocrity, hence the failed stated that is guyana, look if burnham was alive I would be on the verge of taking over the party and yes my ideas are all aggressively youthful and progressive. So wake up ms. todd, think outside the BOX and become a leader the youths can trust and start to look up to.

    • Fola Smith GUYANA says:

Well, Maverick, Burnham is dead and so is the PNC. But if we don’t get up off our seats and stop wallowing in self pity, the party will have no future. Can’t blame Ms Todd for her ignorance. Got to blame old stalwarts like you who ran when the going got tough.

  10. Terry GUYANA says:

Ms Todd missive did not come as no surprise to me given derelict state of the GYSM which she so proudly announce that she is an executive member of., a party that have become virtually ineffective, lack of broad based support and rapidly loosing its intellectual base. Given the fact that the party has lost support, congress place has virtually become a pasture for stray animals during the day, a youth arm that failed to convene a quorate National Executive committee meeting since its last congress and a part been viewed as bankrupt for ideas we are all yet to see Corbin’s vision in this morass

    • A. Persaud UNITED STATES says:

Terry you are in Guyana it seems. Your comments appears to be truthful . My question is how can the young people take back the almost defunct PNC party and the youth movement from the grips of the likes of Corbin, Green, and the few “diehards”? How can the intellectuals get back into the party that has had a history in Guyana?

I hope everyone learns from Barack Obama. One has to be a leader for all the people and not just its base.
