Dear Editor,
Last Sunday’s Kaieteur News front page was adorned with the images of some tombs in Le Repentir Cemetery, which were graded according to status. It was, in my opinion, a piece of insensitive journalism. Consider the relatives who might have recognized the tombs of their deceased. And since when has the cemetery had a good status? Christians are reluctantly opting for cremation. Le Repentir Cemetery is a national disgrace. I need a compass to find my parents’ tomb which is covered with trees, etc, in addition to no footpaths.
In conclusion may I state that it is not the size of the tomb, or the casket or the coffin which is the criterion for a gate pass to heaven.
Yours faithfully,
(Name and address provided)

Compass only? You’ll need:
binoculars
machete
long boots
insect repellant
spear (to ward of the caimans and camodies)
plenty drinking water and food
GPS
etc
You missed the transportation mode to the burial site after using your GPS….”a boat” ..LOL …ISNM
yuh farget bull dozer, a TomTom, an de Lard Mayor.
Listen, all you need is……………………..a good heart and a pair of running boots……….cause when u see that place……oh boy!!!
And antibiotics, masks, cutlass, a guard with licensed gun, and jay’s fluid for ur boots. What a shame, cannot find my dad’s grave, some graves are broken down by the cows, people fishing there, no proper bridges to cross over the trenches, graves being used by others to drink rum, graves cracked showing remains, what a downright shame.
No respect for the resting place of these souls, the pockets are filled by these funeral homes, who are not complaining to the government concerning the services that should be given to taxpayers.
Other big boys would not be placed there, see where Forbes was placed?, in the gardens, all because he was the president of the country, God don’t look at status, and he surely don’t wear pajams.
Well I do not read KN…too flamboyant for me with grotesque pictures.
….but some time ago Hammie did promise to undertake a cleaning up of the
cemetery.
Was that done?
To keep track of promises is a full-time job in itself, but then politicians
enjoy the verbal expositions.
I think I know the writer of the letter for we had had exchanges on this matter
in the past.
Carl, are you sure Hammie promised to undertake or he promised to be the undertaker. LOL
Joe
Most cemetaries are neglected, overrun with weed and cow holes, a roost for robbers ,rapist, homeless, and the insane. Basically a national disgrace. This has been going on for thirty years now. Succesive goverments, illegal and legal did nothing. The catch. Leaders,If they are to be correct, will be buried in the coveted spot, the Botanical Gardens.
A national disgrace as the first writer stated and let’s not forget the cemetary is a site for the city to dump garbbage also. total slackness and lack of concern by the city or whom ever is responsible and then again with lawlessness, no-one is in control and everyone point their fingers to someone else.
when u say legal and illegal………wat u mean?
No surprise with the reporting of KN.
People , you all mentioned everything but forget the choke and rob people , they always hiding in the old tombs and jump you when you pass by .
Why u think I mentioned the licensed gun and cutlass, ( for the thieves)
IF ALL THE RELIGIONS DOES LIKE THE MUSLIMS, WHO CLAENS & PAINTS THE GRAVES OF LOVED ONES EVERY YEAR DURING THE MONTH OF RAMADAAN, I THINK WE WOULD HAVE A CLEAN CEMETARY. INSTEAD OF MAKING NEGATIVE REMARKS, WE SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING VERY POSITIVE TOWARDS THIS ISSUE. JUST A SUGGESTION.
NICE. But the word IF is a big question.
I agree with Sam’s suggestion…although the government should be responsible for the upkeep of these places….the Christian body and/or other religious groups along perhaps with organizations such as Rotary etc. can come together and have a clean-up week/month, with MANY volunteers. Cause with the current government aint nothin gonna be done….and empty promises will be made. Again this reflects not only on the government but the Guyanese society as a whole and our regard for the dead.
Taxpayers already doing their part, the thieves in all the lockups should be taken there with heavy chains on their feet and should be made to clean there for their upkeep, instead, u can see them looking through the bird cages at the corners of Camp and Durban Streets, having long conversations with their friends who constantly limes their for a conference.
Place iron chains with iron balls, they cannot run with those, save taxpayers pockets from bigger holes, let them do the cleaning.
Then u also can call and make reservation for a ticket to Guyana to help this much needed clearing of the filthly eyesore.
o yes, thanks for the reminder
you ain’t see etc”?
you miss the etc.
The illegal government was the PNC regime. They rigged the elections since forever. Or yuh forget?
The present one is a legal mandate , the previous one is an illegal illegal mandate.
According to other bloggers, especially, Hacket of the East Coast. Please use “etc” at the end of your sentence after you have listed the modes of transportation to “hell on earth”. BTW,Sandman, you are still thinking army. “running boots”..LOL…ISNM
LOL
I already got my ticket..what say you?
yes my ticket is in hand already…what say you?
good suggestion also….let the prisoners give back to the society ….but of course in gt everything is slow to fruition.. unless ya getting a “lil piece” . De mayor should REALLY do his job and clean this sorry place ….Welcome to beautiful Guyana!
