Dear Editor,
I am truly happy that our police force is now taking action against minibuses that send immoral messages to our youth and our nation.

These negative messages definitely affect our people, as does a kind of vulgar and negative advertising. It motivates people to reflect on the idea of the message. If the message is positive, then the viewers would think positive thoughts, similar to those inspired by the quotes from the Holy Bible, the Holy Quran and the Bhavagad Gita that we sometimes see on some buses and hire cars.

At one time a relative of mine had something unsuitable written on his bus.  I explained to the young man that this was improper and did not inspire people to greatness, yet he kept on insisting that it was his trademark which attracted passengers. For years we disagreed, until finally a wise policeman on the West Bank told him he had to take it off.

When people put such displays on their vehicles, in reality they are telling of their style, their personalities, their preferences. As a nation we need to reflect on positive things and enhance a positive existence.  Positivity will breed more positivity and our country and people will gain, as negativity breeds and attracts more negativity and our people and nation lose more and more.
Yours faithfully,
Roshan Khan

Roshan Khan, you are so right !

This is where some Draconian Laws are needed.

The Government which has so much power should not baulk at this.
They should be tough and have all these immoral messages stamped out.

But guess what? enters violation of human rights, violation of UN Charters to which Guyana is a signatory and a whole host of intermediary problems.

That we see change and law imposition necessary are fine.
    To get action?….hmnnn..de problems surface!

Finally take this Comment System that SN uses:
    1. SN has a policy that you can use any name you want
    2. I disagree with them because some names are utterly hostile and rediculous
    3. when I read the comments of some of the posters, it is just like you said of
your family “he kept on insisting that it was his trademark which attracted
passengers”, only in this instance their comments do reflect their
personalities which you should guess are negative in keeping with the names
    they choose to post under.
    4. sometimes I think draconian measures are the order of the day.
