Dear Editor,
I sympathize with the people of Bel Air Gardens, Bel Air Springs, Subryanville and communities around, because of the Sunday evening and holiday street lime permitted on the seawall along that stretch of the East Coast Highway called Clive Lloyd Drive.
I have noticed several complaints in the press, and whenever we pass the area on these days, it is with fear of blasting music and the possibility that a child or adult will run across the road and get hurt.
The above listed locations are decent, residential communities, where diplomats, expatriate consultants, entrepreneurs and many ordinary but decent and good people live. I can imagine the horror and pain of these people when Sunday evening or any holiday arrives.
They cannot have a peaceful dinner with their family or decent light entertainment with their friends, due to the huge boom boxes that cause the highway to tremble, and the homes of people to vibrate. Just imagine the human eardrum reacting with migraines, and the people with a sleepless Sunday night being unable to work Monday morning and contribute to the nation.
Now, I am not one to criticize or condemn a thing without an idea as to what to do to solve the situation. Bearing in mind that I used to go and relax on that seawall stretch on Sundays and in the evenings, even taking our home-cooked meals and turning it into a pleasant and cool picnic, and can no longer go − some people do not like large crowds.
There are those who have learned to make money, and lots of it too. Food is sold by all and sundry, whether hygienically prepared, certified cook or not. Some sadly have been allowed to get accustomed to the income, so they will cry foul! Honest living! etc, etc, etc, and the authorities will get a good cuss-down, though in my opinion they allowed the lawlessness to flourish.
Hence, the authorities should allow the people to congregate, sell food, but no alcoholic beverages, and most important, no music. No music, is no music! No excuses, just like the initiative taken against minibuses with music.
The use of alcoholic beverages causes people to urinate, and they do it everywhere and anywhere − on the parapets where people have to walk with their children or play games. There is a time for everything. It is time for the nonsense to stop. It is time for the government and city council to act.
There, you have it, the trade continues, the relaxing continues, but no alcohol and no noise. Result: everyone happy.
Yours faithfully,
Roshan Khan

Look who talking about decent? Those guards that complain in the papers have a different view.
Because we – other people – live else where than the places mentioned means that we are not ‘decent and good people”?
I think the people should be allowed to congregate at the sea wall, However no music alcohol or food vendors should be allowed, and garbage bins should be placed at about every 100 yards, so that the place will be clean and nice for everyone to enjoy.
Ms. Khan has arrived. Now look who I am! Who are those that insist on preventing me from enjoying my Sunday? Let them be gone. As for Diplomats, expatriate consultants. You would think such individuals would have something to say to the authorities of the scene. Or, maybe, they understand.
This can best be described as a foolish complaint.
In any case, we did ventilate our opinions in previous posts, so Mr or Miss
Roshan Khan…take a hike and enjoy the cool breeeze and de music.
Let the people have some clean fun…music, food, drink and cool breeze.
Life in GT is sufficiently tough.
i say de same thing…it looks like its only a chosen few, the diplomats, expats, etc should enjoy our brezzy sea-wall. Let the people have fun and let the sea-wall hang continue.
“the use of alcohol causes people to urinate”. wow! what a rocket scientist.
move out from deh if de noise bothering yuh and if de rum fumes making yuh hi…
simple as 1 -2 -3
Why you lef hey and run to Canada evil eyes. Just go to the back of your apt., building and try to do what they are doing on the seawall. See what the police will do to you..
Merry Christmas.. sweetsapodilla
kHAN, or is it can?
There are times when I think that expatriates sees themselves as non Guyanese, or better Guyanese.I cannot let go of the steam which builds up within me, and cussyou out as well as I would like to do some others? BUT BACK TO THE GUTTER;tHE LIFE IN Guyana is a rather stressful one as you too know.I for the first time went on a seawall some weeks ago, and there I found that the people were letting off steam in a rather cool and relaxed manner. The mixing of our races was evident, and this has to be applauded.I think that the moment has come for our peopole to ask the authorities for sanitary conditions that will enhance our lime. The authorities can olso stipulate the decibel level of the sounds, but I am not certain that they have the means of controlling anything of this magnitude. While and when on the outside, we happen to see and realise so many things. The people living inthe area ;have enjoyed the luxuary of the seawalls for many years now, ant the masses, are simply taking their due.We have lived too long and still are living in aGuyana where the rich and powerful have the right to enjoy calm and fresh breezes.Let the lime continue for a fish out of water will I be if my next visit to GT has not the SEA WALL LIME
The sea walls is the beach in gt .The lime should not be stopped ,the city council should take a very active role in setting up stall etc so as to make this Sunday event organise and control .Put the city police to work on sunday afternoon
Were these same creeps who want the noise and revelry as a disturbance to others’peaceful way of living to continue, occur outside their very own window, they would be singing a different tune.
And we vex when he Bajan’s treat us bad at the Airport.. They have a reason,, they think we will take our bad habits to Barbados when we go there. What ever happens to us we have no one to blame but ourselves..so don’t cry when they put you on the BENCH at he Airport…
The lime is not a bad thing, but not on the seawall. No running water and toilet facilities there, and food is being sold,.not to mention the noise and the mess. There is a place for everything, take it to the National Park.. Guys.
Happy Holidays…. sweetsapodilla
