The US has a $15T economy,Japan’s is second at $5T and Germany third at $3T.The point is that the text books are only good for China,the UK,Itlay and other countries since these countries have the opportunity to learn from the failure and successes of the largest economies.Data from the largest economies are used to build models.Similarly,data from the largest companies are used to build industry models.Hence my argument that the USA is a realtime economic experiment with the objective of testing the limits of mankind.

Did your professors teach/explain to you a lot about Project Ranking, Economic Rate of Return (ERR) and how these are related the a country’s engineering economy – duh! and, we get some of the missing links in the U. S. economy.

A few ‘mornings’ ago, it was not believable that an black american would have been elected to the office of president of the USA: well, it happened.

This is not the first recession and it will not be the last.

The USA will continue to evolve, progress and calibrate the fundamentals; economy and democratic institutions, which have been responsible for its unequalled success and magnetism, as a society.

The USA’s political and economic system, have demonstrated its resilience and capacity for change,it has outlived the tyranical and totalitarian ideologies and political systems, of facism and communism.

Greg: I’m up against space constraints to answer your query, and I’m not 100% convinced in my own mind, since the evidence is not entirely persuasive. But after China started to become big news last year and suddenly safety/health scares erupted, and then a meltdown began that will affect them more than the US, I thought I saw a pattern and read around the topic a bit.

My concern is for the working class and the poor. I have no sympathy for the rich and the wannabe middle class, they are the ones who impose these draconian policies that affect the working class and the poor.

It’s simple; the bigger a company gets it loses more of its agility suffers i.e. it cannot respond fast enough to changes whether or not it is correcting bad policy decisions or changes in market forces .The more consolidated an industry becomes the less diversified it is i.e. risk are not widely spread but are now concentrated. With that combination any small shifts can doom an industry.

Through-out my MBA education, I always asked my professors “what is OPTIMAL size for an industry/company?”. From the answers I got I can tell you the best minds in academia don’t know.
