A 55-year-old man on Thursday became the latest person to be killed on the country’s roadways bringing the road fatalities for this year to 35 as compared to 77 for the same period last year.

Dead is Godfrey Crème of Barama, North West District. According to a police press release, the accident occurred at about 5:30 pm on Thursday on the Adventure, Essequibo Coast public road. Police said that investigations revealed that Crème had just disembarked from a minibus and was attempting to cross the road from in front of the bus when he was struck down by a car.
He was taken to the Suddie Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

    I guess defensive driving is not practiced in Guyana. So many senseless deaths, fact is speed kills. Reckless drivers should be penalized by higher insurance rates, time served and suspension of drivers’ license.
