A 14-year-old boy who was hit by a motor vehicle on the Back Road on Tuesday afternoon has not been seen since by his family.
Jason Pilgrim of Front Road, West Ruimveldt left his mother at her confectionary stand by the Botanical Gardens on Tuesday afternoon to go to change his clothes but he never returned.
According to Pilgrim’s mother, Sandrine Williams, she received a phone call shortly after 1.30 pm that afternoon. “They told me that my son was hit down by a car and that the driver gone with him to the hospital,” she said.
Williams told this newspaper that residents around the immediate area of the accident said that the driver of the car was speeding in an attempt to overtake another vehicle.
“I went to the scene of the accident Tuesday afternoon and this one man told me how he thought my son de dead,” Williams said.
She went on to explain that the man said the car slammed into her son and knocked him into the air after which he landed on the road.
The distressed mother said she was further told that her son managed to crawl to the corner of the road and he was crying out for pain in his back. There was no blood at the scene, she said, but residents told her that her son was in great pain.
The driver of the car, according to reports from residents, put Pilgrim into his car and informed them that he was taking the teen to the hospital. Williams said that she scoured all the city hospitals for her son but could not find him. “I checked Brickdam and Ruimveldt Police station but they told me nobody report no accident involving a boy,” the woman related.
She went on to tell Stabroek News that they were able to locate the driver of the vehicle and that up to 6 pm last evening he was being questioned by the police about the matter.
“He [the driver] said that he take my son to (a private) hospital for treatment and then put him in a taxi,” Williams said. “When de taxi driver show up (at the police station) he told us that he drop my son back to the scene of the accident.”
The distressed mother said that the taxi driver told her that Jason said he was going to his girlfriend’s house. Williams said that her son does not have a girlfriend and she does not understand why her son was not dropped to his house or to her confectionary stand.
“My son is well known and I know that had he been able to walk he would’ve come home by now. I am only praying that nothing has happened to him,” Williams said with tears in her eyes.

Your reporter didn’t say whether the police made any investigations.
Maybe Ms. Sara can do some investigative reporting on her own. Looking forward to a follow up on this story.
the driver of the car did not care and neither did the taxi driver they are very careless individuals to drop him anywhere.they could have drop him of home or the nearest police station.
This smells like what it is! Someone hiding the truth or this incident wasn’t properly checked before reporting.
This is the most ludicrous thing I’ve ever heard. I find it weird that hospital would release him (that’s if he was ever there) even though he seem to suffer a back injury(as per SN).
Why would the victim reveal he’s going to visit his girlfriend to the cabby? Of what benefit is this information to the cabby? The article didn’t mention if they knew each other.
Whatever happened to reporting the accident? My impression is that the Taxi Driver should be held until the child is found, he was the last person to have contact with the boy.
As the previous writer said the Cabbie and the Driver may have known each other.
What a total disrespect for human life
…. what if the driver of the vehicle is not an authorised driver ,, what if he’s wanted by the police ,, what if the child died on his way to the hospital ,, and the driver just dumped the body ,, what if …………… more questions than answers,, makes me remember Johnny Nash !!!!!!!!
Utter nonsense and bull! I don’t believe a word of this fairy tale.
The GPF had better do an investigation staring with:-
all eyewitness at the scene of the accident and any other places they saw this boy after
the hospital(including all doctors, nurses and anyone else that saw this boy there)
the cab driver( and any witness who saw him take this boy to the location he claims)
I hate to say this but I think foul play may have occured here and it’s just a big cover up. I hope this Mother finds her son soon and I am prooved incorrect.
FYI, this kid is alive and well – Just saw the news on NCN
Glad to know he’s alive and kicking.
I am really sorry to hear about this incident. Not even my ten year old child will buy into this tale that was given to the mother of this child. I am lost for words and will not say more.I hope that he is still alive. This can only happen in Guyana.
THIS IS FISHY, the police should let this driver take them to the hospital he took the child to and let the doctor say what injuries he sustained etc.
Until all this is being done i dont think this driver should be free. The taxi driver also is an accomplis cause he is involve in the coverup.
