One of two men, believed to be Venezuelan nationals, who robbed a Corentyne hotel owner on Friday died yesterday at the Skeldon Hospital while receiving medical attention.

Robielkis Rubrigel Montee De Oca Arias together with another man had rented a room on Friday at the Malinmar Hotel at No. 78 Village, Corentyne owned by Rahat Ally, 46.

The had taken the room at 5.30 pm and according to a police press release at about 7pm  the men complained that the shower was not functioning and insisted that the owner accompany them to look at the problem.

As Ally entered the room one of the men, who had a firearm, held him at gunpoint and a scuffle ensued during which Ally was hit about the body with the firearm and a round was discharged.

The statement went on to say that Ally’s wife, Maureen, and an employee were alerted by the sound of the gunshot. They both went upstairs to investigate and the two men ran out of the hotel, jumped over a back gate and headed for the area where some boats were moored.

It was reported, the police said, that one of the men fell and hit himself when they jumped over the gate of the hotel compound.

At the river the duo entered one of the boats and attempted to start the engine whereupon personnel from the Berbice Anti Smuggling Squad (BASS) who were in the vicinity discharged rounds into the air to deter them.

The release said that at the same time police ranks who had responded promptly to the report arrived at the scene and arrested the two men who were taken into custody. The firearm was not located.

The police release further said that one of the men, Robielkis Rubrigel Montee De Oca Arias, had a wound over his left eye and at approximately 10.10pm on Friday he was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where he was treated and sent away.

At about 11am yesterday, the release continued, police ranks observed that Montee De Oca Arias was panting for breath and as a consequence took him back to the Skeldon Hospital where he succumbed while receiving medical attention. A post mortem examination is to be conducted on the body.

If they had shot and kill the hotel owner then you will say here goes again another unsolved crime or incompitent police. the hotel owner works for what he have and not to loose his life to some no good thieves. Just imagine what could have be the outcome if they had succeeded in their plan.

I agree with MS_msprobe views. How can anyone see it the other way and so blatantly is amusing. But then again everyone further their own means. Good response from the police almost always comes from the Corentyne. The police there also approaches faster than anywhere else, the motto ‘all for one and one for all’.

I think if the police should investigate properly, they will find that a lot of things being blamed on Finman, are being done by those same people,I have always felt that what happened at Bartica, looked like it was done by “outsiders” with a boat and a map they could cross the border,do the crime and get away easier than Guyanese bandits, its no wonder they dissapear,GPF DO YOUR JOBS,forget about politics, and be the force you used to be,before.

It was always said if you play with the puppies you will be bitten by the fleas. That is what exactly happen to that guy , answer these questions, why did he left Venezuela to come here to do that ? Is our country the eyepass for criminals? Can a Guyanese go to Venezuela and do that? If not just go back and live under the dictatorship and then tell us otherwise.

  10. Greg UNITED STATES says:

Two wrongs don’t make a right. That’s important here. Police should not be operating as criminals. If a person dies in Police custody there should be an investigation. No matter how bad the criminal the Police should be subjected to the right rules of engagement. Other wise they are not law enforcement but merely uncouth vigilantes hiding under the umbrella of justice.

MS-probe, you are exactly right. Some of these bloggers see one sided. Too many businessmen are being robbed, it’s time these thieves pay

WELL SAID MS- PROBE….SOME PEOPLE CAN JUST LOOK FOR AN INCIDENT TO MAKE A COMMENT , WITHOUT HAVING A SECOND THOUGHT…OF WHY,WHEN AND WHERE……………..THEY ARE SO BACKWARD….THEY WILL NEVER CHANGE, REGARDLESS WHERE THEY GO OR BEING PLACED…..I PITTY THEIR INTELLIGENCE….

  14. colt45 UNITED STATES says:

Torbo seems to see everything in Guyana in a negative manner. ms-probe you are absolutely correct.

  15. Greg UNITED STATES says:

I insist. MS_probe and his sympathisers are supporting vigilante justice. There is nothing one sided about the right way. Suggesting that the Police take justice into their own hands is like creating a monster you soon cannot control. Imagine how stupid it sounds to have law enforcement break the same law they are trying to uphold.

Imagine the police doing what you are suggeting in America. Many careers were destroyed by cops doing what you guys are suggesting. Guys, if your comments cannot be premised in right and wrong and they cannot solve the crisis in Guyana you should keep them to yourselves.
