The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is in the process of analyzing the information gathered during the single parent registration process.

Minister Priya Manick-chand said on Monday that this analysis will provide the ministry with information regarding the number of single parent households in different regions across the country and give details about the age groups of the children involved, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.

The minister further stated that based on the information extracted, the ministry will be able to identify which group of single parents spend more in one specific area as opposed to another. This will aid in determining the form of assistance that is most needed among the various single parent groups, GINA added.

And it quoted Manickchand as saying that  staff aided by several work-study students are working approximately 12 hours daily to ensure the process is completed speedily so that the ministry will be able to make informed decisions as to what would be the best form of assistance for single parents.

Government allocated $100M to support vulnerable single parents in light of rising food prices globally and the increasing pressures this group faces, GINA stated.

Supervisor for this programme Brian Smith said that the registration process has been completed with a record of 35,000 registrants from the various regions of Guyana. A total of 9,000 registration forms have been reviewed and information entered into the ministry’s database.
This process entails transferring the information from the registration forms to its data base to ensure accuracy and reduce the likelihood of errors.
