A 17-year-old lad who allegedly robbed another of just over $113,000 in cash and jewellery was refused bail when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Yannyck Cummings of South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery under arms when it was read to him by Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle.

It is alleged that on September 3 in Georgetown the teenager while being armed with a gun robbed another of a pair of diamond earrings, two cellular phones, a wallet and a quantity of cash together worth $113,500.

According to the defendant’s lawyer the incident resulted from a problem between the virtual complainant (VC) and his client.

However, the VC told the court that on the day in question he was on his way home from the seawall when he was hit on the right jaw with a gun by the teenager. He said that it was about 9:15pm and the accused  held him in a vice-like grip and proceeded to rob him.

The prosecution reported to the court that there were two others involved in the robbery but the police have not yet been able to arrest them. The prosecution objected to bail stating that the accused may interfere with the VC.
Magistrate Robertson-Ogle refused bail and the matter is to continue on September 16.
