we need to keep the pressure on.

And why is George Marks afraid to press for charges? Politics should not play a part in justice being served.

You guys are talking about an unlicensed firearm. The police said the firearm was not registered for 2008. We are still in 2008. What is procedure for registration, do you know? What is the dead line to register your firearm for the year? Remember the weapon was given to him by the police to protect himself.

Don’t forget guys. In GT as long as you are well connected you get a slap on the wrist. Remember the Minister’s fiasco with the gun? How much different is that from the magistrate’s. However Errol Alfonso will feel the full brunt of the law. Comments are welcome,good or bad.

That’s right. The flimsy excuse is that the police statements are inadequate. But he turned in his unliscensed weapon and ballistics can link him to the shooting just like they linked fineman to every other shooting in the territory. Who needs police statements? At least they can get him on the weapons charge!

Last week a man get charge for stealing 2 mangoes from chronicle news and got wes order to keep the peace for a couple of months,who is this magistrate that his case is being prolong so long and then there are recomendations that he be demoted. I went to school 20 of my 24 years of my life to know what justice is and this is not justice. Lets wake up and see the light and speak out for all these injustice that is going on.

I have a lawyer who once told a group of us that gov’t want to promote him – to magistrate/judge- (cannot recall) but he decline because he would no longer be allowed to associate with us – his ordinary friends ( of course not in Gy).
At first this incident surprised me – may be because of what our lawyer friend had told us – but then the ‘reality of Guyana” hit me.
If we do not have any regard for the law /s of a country that we live in then we should not think of becoming law enforcers – police, lawyer, magistrate, judge – if we cannot practice it.

My point exactly, with these kinds of shannanigans how will there ever be “genuine peace” in Guyana???? People with unlicenced firearms in their possesson are usually incarcerated. Now, here we have a magistrate who should be enforcing the law, has an unlicenced firearm, shoots during a confrontation with a law-enforcement officer & the DPP recommends that NO CHARGES BE LAID against this “person”. So little “Balgobin” gets a gun & starts shooting police because if big guys can do it & get off why not me???? A land of six peoples & we are ALL EQUAL …………… or are there some more equal that others!?!?!

Guyana is a cow boy country, you can get away with almost anything, I remember a few months when the PPP cabinet minister discharged his fire arm and beat up a young kid we are not hearing anything about that anymore, what we need in Guyana is the consitution to amend, no government ministers should be member of parliment. Because you know they are going to be a rubber stamp to the Government.

Mr: Mack, I sorry that you felt that way. Justice must be serve for the victim in this case. One month ago, a man discharged a loaded firearm at his neighbour’s house and two weeks ago the DPP recomended that he be charge and his firearm’s licence revoke. The difference is the magistrate shot at and wounded a human being; to with:a police officer in uniform executing his duties and the other man, well, he shot at a building and did’nt hurt anyone. Now Mack tell me where this does’nt make sense to you. Mr: Gilhuys must be charge because he’s not above the law. This man did other evil and criminal things you know nothing of.

Dear Editor, I’ve been writing letters everyday on behalf of the victim in this sad matter and intend to continue until Mr: Gilhuys is charged over the shooting and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. I’m an ex-cop and have spoken to many ex-cops living within the New York area who also agreed that the ex- magistrate should be charged. Just last week the ex- Mayor of New Amsterdam Mr: Errol Alphanso was charged with attempted murder, with little or no evidence to support such a charge. He not above the law and as such should face it like any other. More importantly we the bloggers on this site must keep the pressure on the government {DPP} so as to ensure that JUSTICE is serve in this case.

Who cares about the backlog of cases he has on his hands?

Where in the civilized world, would a magistrate even dream of opening fire on policemen with an unlicensed firearm?

What is the message being sent here? Is it ok to open up with unlicenced weapons so long as you have enough clout?

And it matters not who shot first, he should have been prudent and surrender to the officers and maybe press charges later on.

According to the DPP no charges will be laid against the magistrate. If this body is responsible for making decissions about prosecutions and have done so, then this matter is closed. We cannot have a law within the law. If no charges then the magistrate is cleared to resume his duties. The backlog of cases continue during indecissions. Someone needs to make a decission. The longer we procrastinate, the more cases are added to the backlog. Guyanese, please be efficient. Stop the porcrastinating.

RA and the other bloggers, the JSC is different from the DPP and teh courts. The latter two bodies should have instituded charges. In the absence of charges, the JSC’s hands are tied to take substansive action. The JSC is doing its best by contemplating a demotion. Say something that make sense, dudes. The move by the JSC is not about justice, but about behavioural issue.
