A man and a woman are clinging to life at the Georgetown Public Hospital after an attempted murder/suicide.
The man Rafeek Baksh, 36, of 471 Block ‘Y’ Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara was up to press time in Ward B 2 of the Georgetown Public Hospital, while the woman, Natasha Ramphal, 28, of Industry, East Coast Demerara was receiving treatment in the Accident and Emergency Unit.
According to reports reaching this newspaper, Baksh ingested a poisonous substance after Ramphal was dealt several chops at First Street, Cummings Lodge.
The woman was reportedly walking along First Street on her way to collect her child when her attacker pulled up in a burgundy car. The man was carrying a cutlass, which he used to chop Ramphal three times across the head, once across the right hand and twice across her left hand.
The woman’s friend, who was present at the hospital, said Ramphal ran into a yard to escape but her attacker followed her and continued to chop her.
When this newspaper visited the hospital, Baksh was outside the x-ray department awaiting attention. His family members, who did not want to speak to the media, were heard complaining that he was not receiving attention and one female broke down into tears.

He attacked a woman with intent to kill.She had no say in the matter.
He drank poison so let the nurses attend to her and let his wish come true.
It may save another woman’s life.

well said Gerry, leave him to die, why is his family crying? if this was my sibling id rather see them die, he is a disgrace. So ignorant, look at the pain and suffering he will now put this woman through and his family complaining about him not receiving attention.
What that woman could have done to deserve such a treatment? He was even so heartless to do such horrible thing in front of a child. I hope the devil have a well heated spot waiting for him.

He has to wait his turn to be seen by a doctor, the hospital have many patients who are far more deserving…….

His sibling is not him —they have a right to be concerned for his welfare .He should live to pay for this actions . I agree being hard on him –not his family .

Same as always, eh guys! The criminal being felt sorry for and no support for the victim here; what about the poort child who’se mother he tried to kill.
There should be a law to stop medical personnel to attend to these darn criminals only costing hard working people’s tax dollars!
