Berbice power boosted

GPL says its generation capacity in Berbice has been boosted and customers will now receive power during the day and after the evening peak period.

In a press release the company said it received a 6.5MW boost with the return of the No.4 Mirrlees set at Canefield on Monday and the No.5 EMD at Onverwagt on Wednesday morning. This means it has a total of 13.5MW available including 4.4MW from the Guyana Sugar Corporation. GPL said it is trying diligently to ensure that a second turbocharger arrives today which would allow a second 2.5MW EMD to be commissioned tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the company urges consumers to conserve electricity especially during the peak period to allow more consumers to receive power.
