Either this crossing is established as a legal means of travel by both countries and regulations established or this is stopped forthwith. It is an illegal activity and cannot be condoned, that would be tantamount to lawlessness.

The "give the people a slack" mentality is how it all starts. Laws are not there to be broken - they are there to establish order.

Guyana needs to get a grip and control it's border crossings. At the moment it really seems like a free for all!

Roger Khan liked the "Back Track" route too. We must have a good system in place. It is better in the long term for all Guyana. Do you think that the authorities in Suriname care? Have you ever looked carefully where the Guyanese have to embark and disembark on the other side? The have to walk in knee-high water then lift their butt into a "balahoo". This is what you are fighting for? You can do it, I can do it....would you put your family to embark and disembark a boat is such a dehumanizing form? So this thing must remain for some men like us and a few "ship jumpers" and "ruff-neck"? Correct?
Guyanese must support legal taxis for the trip from South Drain or Nikheri to Paramario, not those "rubber-slippers" Surinamer operating taxi service with private cars. Wait one day when they smash up on the road from Nikheri to Paramaribo with a load of Guyanese. Guyanese must be more nationalistic. Our dollars and support is needed by these same tout across the river who threat us as refugees and try to rip us off. We farm for them, we fish for them, we build for them….. Without the Guyanese population in Suriname, their entire economy in shambles, and these people have been undermining our development for decades. How many of us haven't the imprisoned? How many boats haven't they seized? How many of our women haven't the employed as domestics and bullied?
It is time to turn the table around.

What law is it that he has to enforce? The Police can only take action on any wrong doing whilst the perpetrators are on land in Guyana, they have no authority on the water. In any case what are these operators doing illegally? Aren't they licensed by the Surinamese Authorities? If there is any blame to be doled out it should go to the Surinamese for allowing the boats to operate with overload and inadequate safety equipment.
I guess the COP is not that intelligent , instead of saying that the matter is 'technical", he should have said he had no jurisdiction in the matter..........

I guess your memory did fail you. Guyana got its independence May26,1966. Were you in high School then? The problem with the supply of some food items(Split peas, wheat flour, salted cod and the like) began in the '80s

The ICJ did not deal with the question of whose river it is. The New River was long settled. Guyana' s right to the river is vital for its survival. It is like you have a yard and no egress/agress - you cannot enter or leave. We are going to pull this one off with ease at the ICJ.
I call on the Government of The Cooperative Republic of Guyana to deal with this issue right now. Do not let this matter continue any longer.

The poor people are afraid to even open their mouths mush less question authority I know what I am talking about. I have my cousin here who is visiting from London and he is afraid for me that I am responding to all these comments.
I do hope the Prime Minister gets the chance to read all the negative things and take a grip of his staff.

what do you think about regular audition? the government and local citizens should work closer together. A strict controle of taxpayers money would make a big difference.50 plussers knows what wealth Guyana had . Where did it all go Why did our people flee and is still fleeing Guyana. Some of us gets the WILLIES
at the thought of retiring home. Why should it be that way while we still love our country dearly. One cannot depend on the Protection of the GPL. The GPL should work on gaining the respect of the citizen instead of using brute force and voilence. Change their aproach. A real Guyanese (GUYANESE TO THE BONES) IS FRIENDLY HOSPITABLE AND FUN LOVING. That's how I knew BEAUTIFUL GUYANA.

Oh what a lame excuse Mr. Greene!!!!!!
Mr. Rohee you have to do much more than 'urge the people to use the legal crossing' sir. You have to put some system in place to assure they use the legal crossings, and beside don't we lose revenue as a result of illigal crossing?

If these comments are not enough proof to see how the GPF and who ever is incharged opperates I would not know what the world is waiting for.3/4 of the nation has fled the country the1/4 that is left might die of gevernment negligence in jail or some other tragidy. When would the Gyuana government realize that they are distroying Beautiful Guyana.
Its such a shame to stand by and just see how a beautiful nation is beeing distroyed in every possible way.
I pray that God shines his light on that once beautiful where I was born.Only god can grant those GPF's and there leaders wisdon to lead guyana in the right direction

This is very tragic for the victims and loved ones we all share their grief but Mr. Hope has been using the back-track boats from "daÿ one" for himself, family and and friends. This tragidy was meant to be, for some reason or the other, if you have been following the story think about the "WONDERS THAT NEVER CEASE TO EXIST" Ask yourself How or Why one survive and the other didn't? it is all God's will.
I do hope that this would be small consulation to all. The victims were meant to depart this way, their family and loved ones still has the opportunity to pay their last respect. may their souls REST IN PEACE.
