Two men and a woman who allegedly broke and entered and stole over $1M in electrical appliances from a man’s home were remanded to prison yesterday when they appeared before Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Mark Edwards of 96 Robb Street, Bourda and Guy Merell of 40 Robb Street, Bourda both pleaded not guilty to the charges of break and enter and larceny, while a not guilty plea was also entered for Claire Shepherd of 90 East Street, Bourda who offered an explanation.

It is alleged that on November 6, the trio broke into a North Road Bourda dwelling house and stole a dub player, a Dell computer, a microwave, a toaster, a cordless phone and a quantity of jewellery, among other items belonging to Deon Grant and valued over $1.2M.

The prosecution objected to bail applications on the grounds that Shepherd had been before the court on a similar matter and the likelihood that they may continue to commit similar offences if granted bail.
However, Shepherd stated that Edwards was the one who had stolen the items. She explained that she was at home sleeping when Edwards went there with the items claiming that they were his “and I didn’t know nothing about he break a man house and steal them.” Magistrate Williams-Hatmin then entered a not guilty plea for Shepherd.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that they be remanded to prison and that they appear back in court on November 28.
