Several contracts have been given the go-ahead including a new wing for the Patentia Secondary School, according to Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon.

According to Luncheon, Cabinet at its meeting last Tuesday offered no objections to the eight contracts. Five contracts were cleared for the housing and water sectors, two to the education sector and one to the electricity sector.

The contracts for the Housing and Water sector are valued at $283.3 million, a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release stated last Friday. According to GINA, the five contracts for this sector will provide ductile iron pipes, ductile iron fittings and valves; materials and labour for the installation of a transmission main linking the Amelia’s Ward and McKenzie water supply systems; for the installation of a pure water distribution network at Amelia’s Ward; the installation of a pure water distribution network at Parfaite Harmonie and for the construction of roads, drains and structures at Tuschen.

Patentia Secondary School will be given a new wing while the University of Guyana, Tain Campus, Berbice will receive an office building under the two contracts worth $117.2 million cleared for the Education Sector.

Further, according to GINA, the $190 million contract for the Electricity sector will procure technical and support services required for the Canefield power station.
