The PPP has expressed its sadness at the death of famed South African singer Miriam Makeba.
In a press release, the party saluted Makeba for her fight against apartheid, saying that she gave her time and money for the South African people, even when she was in exile. They also commended her for her musical contribution saying that even when she was in exile, she popularized African songs, especially those from South Africa.
The party extended its sympathy “to the people of South Africa and to struggling and oppressed peoples the world over”.

i am saddened to learn about the death of miriam makeba,i remembed when guyana was graced with her presence years back when i was still in school, i applauded her resilient struggle in her fight to end apartheid, and support to the movement of freedom fighters in south africa, africa and the african music environment has lost a couragious fighter for freedom.
Editor , you are devoid of intestinal fortitude and completely bias against one whole section of society.

I have seen more character assinations, derogatory and inflamatory remarks from govt supportes which you relish in publishing.Consequently, i assume that you are either timid or in lock step with the ppp”s agenda.

Well at least there is one thing that Burnham might agree with the Present Government on….LOL.
“PPP saddened at Makeba’s death.” ……..
It is indeed sad that she has passed on. She epitomised African music in english lyrics. Her famous ‘Pata Pata’ will live on as a favourite worldwide.
May I also use this space to comment on the passing of Byron Lee of BL&D fame. World and Caribbean music played in his inimitable style for easy listening and dancing! There is a song titled Julianne which he wrote, named after and dedicated to his daughter shortly after her birth.
They are both entertaining the Angels now! May their Souls Rest In Peace.
Eh eh,Ankoko,I did’nt know about Byron Lee,thank you for that peice of info, may those two legends rest in peace!!
