A West Berbice youth faces the possibility of losing a limb after he was severely chopped by another man yesterday afternoon.
Jason Robertson, 17, was receiving treatment up to press time last evening for the wounds he suffered during a brutal assault at the hand of a friend’s brother, at Hopetown Village. Robertson was chopped on both arms ands and legs.
He was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital, where he was stabilized before being transferred to the Georgetown Hospital for further treatment.
A female cousin told Stabroek News that Robertson was herding his cows to their pen for the night, when the attack occurred. The pen is located in a backdam, some distance from his home.
She said that he was sitting on the fence when he was accosted by a man with a cutlass, who told Robertson that he did not appreciate the problems he had with his brother. The cousin explained that Robertson was having problems with a friend of his since last week.
She said that the man dealt Robertson several chops about the body and then ran away.
Robertson himself ran as far as the railway line, a little distance from the pen, before he fel to the ground.
Another cousin told Stabroek News that another “cowboy was coming through the bushes. Jason holler fuh he.” By then other cowhands came through the area and one of them went to tell the family.
The woman said that when they went to get Robertson he was conscious and told them what happened, although he was somewhat incoherent.
He was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital in a taxi.
Meanwhile, police had still not arrested Robertson’s assailant up to press time.

This so sad and tragic to see these young men turning to violence to solve their problems, i hope his assailant is caught and brought to justice. I used to live in hope town and it’s a nice peaceful village, and i still have relatives there.
I was born in Hopetown, and i am shocked to hear that this would happen there, I was there last July, and i really enjoyed my stay in Fort Wellington,,,, This is a peaceful and loving village where people are all family and really do love each other.
Now why is his attacker still on the loose. He should be in jail awaiting his trail day for attempted murder. Why do people always turn to voilence to solve their problems. Clearly this problem had nothing to do with the attacker but with his brother. Maybe he should have taken a page out of his brother’s book and just let sleeping dogs lie for abit
what is really going through the minds of people today , they have resorted to violence of any form he will be caught and severely dealt with.
No matter what happens, no one should settle disputes with violence. From the report the attacker’s brother had a problem with the victim and the attacker took things into his own hands. I hope they find him, try him swiftly and jail him for a few decades. I have no problem using my taxes for his upkeep (or should I say downkeep).
JOHN SMITH THINK YOU SHOULD PAY THE TAXES FOR HIS DOWNKEEP
John Smith i will ensure that my TAXES Dollars get before time in Guyana to lock this animal. i think he should learn from his brother, what a beast attitude.
The general frustration is reaching all levels of Guyanese life. I hope the assailant is caught, receives a speedy trial & faces the consequences of his deeds. It’s obvious that there is a gross disrespect for our laws & those responsible for enforcing it.
Young boi, that is the same question that is going through my mind. Why is his attacker is still on the loose? Everyone in Guyana these days are turning to violence to settle disputes. Everyday you can read about rape, domestic violence, robbery, murder, under aged consuming alchol & the listt goes on & on. Does no one has any fear for the almighty? I am sorry for the state of affairs of my beloved Guyana. I was thinking of relocating back to my homeland, but now i am having second thoughts.
If you do go back, be careful. I spend a lot of time back home and I can tell you SOME people in GY are like demons these days. Any little misunderstanding can lead to somebody bleeding. Getting justice from police stations or the courts often Co$t you and still, you fell deprived of it……… I’ve seen a road accident victim being robbed of his possessions while unconscious and bleeding; this is to show you the compassionate side of some….. Oh and if you are planning to buy a house from one of those Realtors in GT don’t let them know you’re from overseas or the price might more than triple. Just giving you a heads up!!
It’s obvious we have a serious crisis in Guyana .
when it’s not the bandits , it’s somebody in your street , your husband or your son-in-law, that’s beating you or killing you !
Have we reached our lowest low ? or is there more deploration to come ?
Whatever happened to those religious organisations that used to have open air crusades , preaching about the higher power and about morals ? They make enough money , so they stop the crusades ? Eh ?
Reminds me of the popular one they have in Queenstown , he only has to open his mouth and they whole congregation falling down flat .
My point , why can’t these power filled people go out into the community and help these young ones from turning into killers .
Only the higher power knows !
They don’t preach about morals. The message is simply, more or less, ” Are you saved? You need to be saved or you are going to hell, as are all those who don’t share our religion. All who are saved approach the altar(and while you’re at it give me your money, um I mean plant a seed)”.
GT folks don’t find peaceful solutions to issues anymore; it’s always violence for some of the simplest things that could possibly be resolved with some understanding.
poor uneducated people will always react to minor issues with violence and that will never change.so that is ur answer for those who don’t understand stand why the violence. Also there is also 2 sides to a story let’s find out what was done to the brother.molestion, robbery or other things might deserve to get ur hand chopped off.
Good taught. No one knows what was done to the mans brother, stabroek news need to tell all not half.
there r three sides to a story my side ur side and the truth ……hope the find this butcher soon and throw the book at him ……he put to suffer for picking up firerage
These ignorant individuals should not live among right thinking humans, they should be locked away forn the rest of their life.
Again I ask what is ignorance????? This is about problem solving skills and critical thinking.
I could call you ignorant but that is belittling to any MAN.
