Hamid said that when he refused to turn off his CD player, the man scrambled it out of his hands, ran to the door and threw it on the road.  He stated that the other man then got up and grabbed him and when the one who had thrown the CD player into the street rejoined them, the two men picked up a glass bottle each and dealt him several blows to his head and body.

Hamid noted that when he fell to the ground, the men continued their assault and one of the men later “bruk a glass bottle and start fuh cut me all over me hands with it”. He said that he soon fell unconscious in the saloon and “this morning I wake up in de hospital”.

Hamid stated that he knew his attackers well – had known them for over a year and he reported the incident to a policeman who had visited him at the hospital but did not know if either of his attackers had been apprehended.

and how loudly was it being played? We know his friends could hear it, but was it loud enough to be intrusive to them? There’s too much this article does not say to make an informed judgment on whose rights were violated here.

One man, for sure, was punished already, and that part is unfortunate.

I would like to know why people always blame alcohol for their behavior?, if a man beats hes spouse, he blames it on Rum, if he commits a crime, he blames it on the Government or Rum,,,when are people going to stand up and take responsibility for their actions and stop hiding behind Rum,,,

  6. Ronald UNITED STATES says:

I would like to ask the Guyanese Government why do we have some many Rum Shops in our country? Do we really need so many? We have more rum shops than education / job training centres and churches combine. Rum is the most profitable business in Guyana only second to illegal drugs. Our Government needs to reduce the number of rum shops and the hours of operation. Initiate programs that will help to reduce drinking. Has the owner/operator of this Rum Shop been questioned about this attack and why has he not report it to the Police?. He should be charged as well. I hope this gentleman recover soon with good health and his attackers pay for the crime they have committed.

Ronald, as the Irish put it, you are full of blarney. Why charge the rum shop man? This joker did not listen to his friends who outnumber him. He get licks for he stupidness and fuh being hard ears. He could a tek his music and rum and walk out, providing he bin help buy the rum fuss.

its the cheapest means of entertainment.
many guyanese like to talk of how many beers they drank trying to impress the other, or how long they were drinking[hours] and thats their best conversation they can hold , or the material things they own, no other interesting conversation.
this is only done when the liquor start to take effect.

  7. I am very sorry to hear about this situation that you Farouk had to face because you were playing music that you enjoy and wanted to hear, those two scumbags are darn crazy to do what they did to you. I do hope that they are caught and go before a magistrate and be sentenced to 5 years or more in prison for attempt murder, you look so terrible laying there and I bet that you are in a lot of pain.

They need to pass law as soon as possible that underage kids should not be allowed to purchase alcohol and people in general should not be allowed to drink and drive, set a limit to this dangerous addiction. Some of these lawless songs that are being sung by these artists is making matters worst, I would think so, if I am wrong saying that, please forgive, my view is that it is telling them that it is okay to drink the rum and pay no attention to the consequences. Minister stop for a moment and pay keen attention to this drunken rampage that is going on in Guyana.Help is needed desperately so give the help that is needed Mr. Minister.

With friends like these, who need enemies? If you are going to get drunk make sure you are in good company!

  9. Johan UNITED STATES says:

There will always be bars and rum shops and other such places of social release. We may not like it, but they play an important role in society.

The best way to deal with these negative by-products is to make the proprietors responsible. A points system, perhaps. For every ugly incident on your premises, your points go up. And the higher your points, the more taxes you pay for that business. And if your points hit a preassigned ceiling, both you and your business gets shut down for a while or permanently.

Am I getting too ‘American’ here?

  10. Ryon Lowe UNITED STATES says:

This is the rum season .Next ,will be something else. Remember the crime wave and accident seasons ? I do hope you learn your lesson from this-music lover. Get well soon.
