Congratulations SWAT..Out thoughts are exactly alike, there is no way I can see the accused companions standing behind this young lady when the possibility of a bullet passing through her may also hit them. I do not know what happened but something is not right. I honestly wish the law get hold of this or these annimals and treat them accordingly. To the family of this beautiful young lady PLEASE seek detailed specific answers to your daughter’s injuries. The doctors should take the family in councelling with details and exrays explaining precicely why it is dangerous, and as professionals they should recommend further evaluation if they are not equipt to handle such a case.

I recall Brown Betty. Early seventies. Good old days. Yes, good fried chicken and ice cream. I used to go to the Dog & Bone disco at the corner of Robb Street, Sand Hills, and Palm Courts. The place was quite safe then.Pegasus and the tower were too high priced then for a New Years Eve dance. I also remember the last days of the train in 1971. I lived and worked in Kitty then. Do you recall Ferrera’s take away service in Barr St Kitty? Yes, those were the days. Today, there is no training in proper upbringing, no respect,no nothing. Actually, it is what the society has become. A bad one.In fact, parents need the same training as kids, to start them all over again.However, in spite of the crime and misery,and the blistering remarks I usually deliver whenever I encounter the law flouted or Ministerial incompetence,there are still good God fearing people living in Guyana. I returned to Guyana thus far for two week vacations four times in 30 years.

Caesar, I never taste a chicken like the good old days. I’m craving for that taste.Yes I remember the Black Maria, and walking peacefully in GT.12 or 1 o’clock at nights all over town. The only place that was a little scarry was Tiger Bay.
If Guyana was like then , a lot of people would have gone back after 30 to 40 years, and it would have been good for the country.These young men think they can show their manhood by injuring these young women.But the truth is they are so insecured of themselves, that they cant fight a real man. They feel powerful when they beat up on the women. I call them Cowards.
They dont want to work, so the girls look for others to be with.

Daniel did you seek counseling when your 1st relationship failed? forgive me if you have had only one in your lifetime, however which couple seeks counseling after splitting to remian as friends?. Sometimes one barely gets the opportunity to indicate fault finding, much less say good bye. This is not the movies or sitcoms, either party could decide to pack up and leave. If it ended with both parites mutual respective decision WOW how matured, however that’s not always the case. Also you mentioned that some women may leave a man because of insufficient finances, what happens when women spend their last on men and they leave???

Most times married people get counseling because much more is involved as some persons do not want to have divorces, because it’s a costly, time consuming and emotional procedure.

With unwed persons much is not at stake, a child/ children may be involve and that could be solved by seeking parental rights. Unwed people do not need counseling because some relationships may be so shortlived and especially if the persons involved are not living together.

I read in one article that he constantly abused her and i know it wasn’t verbally, also he was recently released from prison. Maybe he served time for his many abusive behavior.

Caesar – well said, but for a brief moment forget about chemical imbalance. The youths of Guyana are led. They need to follow ….they are followers….. sad as it may be! So make an example of a few, then the others will fall in line. All of today’s criminals were born in the 80s-90s and have no respect for themselves or others. So you have to make them respect something. I remember the days of the Black Maria 60s (black police van) that if criminals saw… they split the area. This is the mentality that needs to prevail in Guyana today. Criminals should FEAR the law. Before I left Guyana in the early 70s it used to be straight finger pickpockets and a choke n rob. Brown Betty had a good chicken n the rough. The seawalls was fun and peaceful, now you cannot travel to Guyana without some fool trying to take your ****** or breaking into your home. Quite a few of my colleagues from Guyana (and myself) want to go home with our children and grandchildren so they can see where we came from, but we do not want to travel because of the crap that is going on. Clean up this …… so that productive people can go back to Guyana to build. All the Political Parties in Guyana should make security of the Guyanese citizens their theme and stop blaming each other for this crap. The hard core criminals or all criminals as a matter of fact are not conducive to Guyana. Get rid of them!!!

Swat, I share your opinion regarding the doctors attitude towards this patient’s mother.However, I feel people should be empowered to ask questions of their physicians.Gone are the days when doctors feel that they are gods.oops, some may still feel that they are.That being said,there are situations where surgical interventions does not help immediately.Question, what diagnostic tests were performed to ascertain the position of the bullet?If the physicians have ordered the appropiate tests like xrays, CT and they have the results,they are duty bound to discuss the findings with the patient and ,or family.However, a second opinion never hurts.I hope this young lady gets the care she deserves, and they find this moron that shot her and jail him for life?By the way, where are his parents?

Guyana needs an active participation on all levels of government to efectivly manage the problem of abuse towrds women(and to prevent incidents like Ms. Pitman´s), we see that this takes alot of factores into consideration like the education that one recives in the home as well as the easy access to guns in our beloved country.
It is hoped that in the near future our society can be one free of violence towards women entirley.
