Five charged with murder

The five men, who were held over the death of 35-year-old Rickford Barker, were yesterday charged with his murder.
Yesterday, three of the men – Rupert Douglas, Ryan Chung and Louie Dublin – appeared before Magistrate Priya Beharry at the Providence Magistrate’s Court and were remanded to prison. They will return to Court on December 4.

Meanwhile, arrest warrants have been issued for the two other men – Samuel Junior Bobb and Walter Settle.
Barker’s battered body was discovered in a cemetery at Soesdyke on Saturday morning. Reports reaching Stabroek News were that some time during last Friday night, residents caught Barker, an ex-convict, attempting to break into a shop in the area.
The man was then subjected to a merciless beating by residents, who after realizing that he was dead, dumped the body in a nearby cemetery and covered it with a piece of board.
