The body discovered floating in the Palmyra area of the Berbice River on Wednesday is believed by relatives to be that of 43-year-old Cornelia Singh.
Andrea Metzger, who contacted Stabroek News via email, stated that based on the description given by the police she believed that the body was her mother’s. According to her, Singh left Canada some two to three weeks ago for Guyana.
The woman’s body was discovered in the river at approximately 6.45 pm, police had said. Further, they had said the woman was believed to be in her mid-thirties, with black hair; slimly built with brown complexion; her height was about 5’6” and she was clad in a blue jersey and blue pants at the time of discovery. The body is at the New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary.
When asked why she thought the body was her mother’s, the woman replied in an email: “I think it’s her because she has been missing for the last two weeks and was last seen in Berbice and the description matches what you guys wrote in the newspaper”.
Metzger maintained that the description given by the police matches her mother and said she believed that foul play was involved.
She informed this newspaper that relatives would be travelling to Berbice to identify the body.
“…she [Singh] left Canada about two to three weeks ago, not sure of the date,” Metzger wrote. “She was last seen by relatives in Berbice, don’t think she was staying with relatives as yet.
“The matter was not reported to the police at the time because we thought she needed time away to be by herself. I had a close friend in the police force looking into any suspicious deaths because I knew it was not like her to be in Guyana and not inform anyone.”
In all of her statements made to this newspaper via email Metzger seemed convinced that the body found in the Berbice River was indeed Singh’s. However, she did express some doubt in a comment she left attached to Stabroek News online article; ‘Woman’s body found floating in Berbice River’ which was published on Thursday. In the comment Metzger had written, “I’m not sure that this is my mother”.
how is it that your mother left Canada and her daughter is not aware of date left… also how is it the the family were not aware that the wonen was in guyana… if my mom went to Guyana i think the whole family would be aware of the exact date they left and they will be returning!!!! makes NO sense at all…
who ever did this to this women i hope they find them… its sad…. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE PPL OF GUYANA/THE POLICE/THE PRESIDENT EVERYONE.. THERE NEED TO BE SOMETHING DONE!

Why doesn’t it makes sense I live in Toronto and my mom lives in another part of Canada and mind you this is a big woman not a child and can do as she pleases…i’m not very close with my mother that is why I wouldn’t know when she got to Guyana and I would prefer if you have something to comment on know the facts first before saying anything……
Do you think that maybe the woman lived by herself ? maybe she did not want her daughter to know she was going to guyana, maybe she went to meet with a male friend, and she did not want her relatives in guyana know she was coming, just a wild guess.
I think something is wrong with this picture, don’t know when the mother left, how did she left Canada, how come none of the relatives in Guyana even did not know. Is she married? Does she has an ex? Something does not match up. Did aliens take her to the airport. What’s wrong with family of today. May she R.I.P.
My mother lives on her own in another part of Canada away from her family and no has to take anyone to the airport..that’s why they have buses and taxis..and I would prefer if you don’t know all the facts don’t comment on anything……
Guess you never heard of Aliens Taxis and Aliens Airport Limos eh?Well they provide transportation to and from Airports or any destinations to a passenger request. Does something have to wrong with today’s family just because this person chooses to go to Guyana without notifying anyone? I travel to Guyana once a month without notifying anyone, and yes ALIENS TAXI usually takes me to and from the airports.Yes i know something is wrong with my family because of this!
Ok guys don’t let us be so hasty to judge, my mother travels all the time and sometimes we do not even know when she leaves USA for Guyana or elsewhere until she choose to let us know.
Her reason, she is an adult and as such free ot go when and where she choose without having to tell us her every business. She does have a good point, but at the same time if anything happen to her, what can we say?

Andrea, my sympathy to you and your family, just make sure you do what is necessary to find out who committed this foul deed. Pray her soul finds peace.
Well it is a sad world that we live in and in order to be safe we should informed someone even if it is not our kids. People out there are just sick, she may have not meant bad but it is what the sick people out there is thinking, that is what I meant. People should not get so uptight with these comments it is just from what is on the website that we are giving our thoughts. If you did not want people to comments then you should not have this site up. That is true I dont know the facts but I made my comments base on what was on the website.
Hmmm! Strange story! The writer of this newspaper article has clearly not done a good job reporting on this story. More details required! Was the deceased picked up at Timehri International by relatives? Was she staying with relatives? Was she visiting relatives in Berbice?
I honestly think the reporter should get all the details together before attempting to write an article. Please be clearer the next time.
if he had all of the details then we would not be bickering. . the reporter is getting exactly what he wants ratings and recognition and he probable only had enough money to buy a flattie of rum for his source. so he got what he paid for.
Very sketchy here. Anyone with a brain in his head will see there are too many gaps in this story.
Andrea i agree with you 100%, cause one time my mother went to Guyana to suprise everyone without anybody knowing and plus the lady is a big woman.

Andrea, this is a very sad situation. I am one of her cousin and i got the news this morning i am heart broken for every one. Her dad is my mom sister, i visited Canada a month ago and i asked for her we was told she is in Guyana. I saw a few of the others and we had a great time. But now this is very sad. I am living in New York. My e-mail nmagaret@hotmail.com. send me an e-mail so we can be in touch this family is very huge. Again situations happens for anyone out there who did anything to her god never sleep.
