—day’s takings missing
A 68-year-old businessman was found dead in his Parika, East Bank Essequibo home yesterday morning and it is believed that he had been strangled.
Dead is Brandis Roberts of Parika Highway. The dead man, who owned a gas station, was found with his hands tied behind his back and a pair of pants tied around his face, covering his mouth, police said. Jewellery that Roberts was wearing at the time, his cellular phone and keys were intact, relatives said.
Police, in a statement said that they were investigating the suspected murder of Roberts, whose body was discovered at his home at about 7.30 yesterday morning. The dead man’s nephew, Carl Prowell told Stabroek News that his uncle was killed some time between 6.30pm on Saturday and 7am yesterday. He stated that Roberts was last seen when he left the gas station for home at about 6.30pm on Saturday. He had a bag with the day’s sales and this was missing, Prowell said, though jewellery that the man was wearing, his cellular phone and keys were untouched.
Prowell said that his uncle usually left the gas station with the money.
Roberts’ body was discovered by his brother, Winsley, who went to check on him after he did not turn up at the gas station and calls to his cellular phone went unanswered. The building was unlocked and the body was lying on floor of the kitchen, located in the bottom flat of the two-storey building, Prowell said. He declared that his uncle had a gun, but they had not located it and it is uncertain if the bandits had taken it.
After the discovery, the police were alerted and the body was taken to the mortuary. The home, where Roberts lived alone, was sealed by the police yesterday.
Roberts and Winsley had operated the gas station, located not far from his home for over 20 years. It is not that first time that Roberts was robbed, Prowell related. He stated that earlier this year, bandits had robbed his uncle of $2.5M but nothing had ever come of the matter. “This action tek he life,” he said. Neighbours did not recall hearing anything and several persons were questioned as police investigated the matter.
The gas station was closed yesterday and persons in the area expressed shock at Roberts’s death. He leaves to mourn his brother, a daughter and other relatives. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted today.

I wonder if he has an ex somewhere?Looks a bit fishy…my sympathies to the family!
guy 123, i do not think this robbery also, he had all his personal effect on him except of the gun.
oh my goodnes, this madness is just not stopping. it seems as if everyone is competiting to see who could commit the most gruesome crime. there must be some intervention because it is all senseless. we are fighting and killing each other when the real enemy is out there.
The citizens of guyana will have to do someting about all of these acts of violence because law and order is crippled
Lord help us all, everyone have to pray and keep on praying!
Another one Gone trying to do something possitive in Guyana my sympathy to the family of Mr Roberts ,just recently the President of Guyana was in New york telling people to Come and invest in Guyana o beautiful Guyana every day in the papers somebody get murder or robbed i really think if you are ready to die fast it is the best place to go.
Invest my foot. You better stay where you are. What the hell is he going to do for you,? he cant even help the ones that are there.
Dont you see it’s getting worst?
I bet you all the politicians sleep good at nights.
Politicians in Guynana has only one think in mind,
Being a big shot, being called by a big Handle, Sir, Mr, Hon., Chief, etc
WHAT ARE THEY DOING FOR THE HARD WORKING CLASS PEOPLE.?
Bad News…A few quick questions…Are u Guyanese? Is so you are now living in the USA which is a bed of roses? How many murders takes place everyday in the US? Count them and send that figure to Guyana, if you like I can tell you how many for yesterday alone…If the president of Guyana went to New York to encourage investment, that is his functions as president…In any country there are Criminals who stalk people, I do not thing this will cause you to make a board statement like that …If anyone is ready to die come to Guyana,or if you are saying that the president should go to new york to tell people that they must not to return to guyana , well that is a different story..You have to weigh out the positive developments that is taking place in guyana against the one and two unfortunate things..and then make statements positively..
Yet on his flight back to Guyana, he did not say a single word to his FELLOW GUYANESE. Who were on the same flight with him.
Surely worked like a donkey in his lifetime, to reap the benefit in his twilight years, just to be cut down by by those get rich quick criminals.
Hopeful that they would be caught and the same treatment would be applied.
sick
Once again I’ll suspend my judgement until more info. is made available.
Something is definitely wrong here.
Condolences to the family.
4real,I am with you on that!!!
as a young boy growing up in guyana i was taught we had six races, now it seems as if we have three, police, thieves and victims so sad, hope someday soon the nation comes out of this chaotic situation as the only solution seems to be migration
As a young boy we were all taught wrong, there’s only one race and that’s the human race, in guyana we have six ethinic groups and not race.
The carnival of carnage continues while some masquerade as though the festival of fatality is now a normal ’social activity’. What more can I say, these are dark times and death stalks the land.
My sympathies to yet another family.
you’ve mangled Martin Carter’s This is a dark time, my love.
But it is, it is.
What can you say? It is the season for giving… as well as taking; the season of peace and violence; season of hope and despair; the season of need and greed; a season of merriment and grief; the season when one half builds the house and the other half pulls it down. WHY? Because it’s Christmas and I must give my children something, and no Christmas gift is more precious and valuable that that paid for with the sweat, blood and life of someone else, and the bitter tears of those he leaves behind.
My heartfelt sympathies to the relatives.
Arnold….Well said!! , what can be done about people who find it so easy and cold
to take another person’s life for money or material things. These people have lost their way; sadly they are not only in guyana they are all over the world guyana
has become a new country fill with evil; the guyana we new has become a “EAT OR BE EATEN “kind of place.
