Early yesterday morning a motorcyclist met his death after he swerved to avoid two dogs on Carmichael Street.

At approximately 1.10am 49-year-old Gerald Lindore of Sandy Babb Street, along with a pillion rider, was riding along Carmichael Street when he swerved to avoid hitting the dogs and lost control of his bike. According to a police press release, after the man lost control of the bike both he and the pillion rider fell sustaining injuries in the process.

Both persons, the police said, were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Lindore succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention. The pillion rider was treated and sent away.

same ole, same ole. same thing just another day. soon we all will become numb from all this and become insensitive because of the lack of enforcement of safety like making cyclists and motor cyclist wear helmets.

    • SandHurst First GUYANA says:

Its not that alone………….some people got their pets running all over the streets looking for food and biting people………….that’s why i would tell whosoever towing me to knock them down …don’t serve out from them…..

Many people have died this way.

    • John Smith GUYANA says:

Wearing helmet is for your own safety, not for the other person or for the tree or concrete wall you might ride into. I have seen people riding with helmets in all fashon, turned backwards, hanging around the neck, sangling from one handle etc. Why must police be enforcing the wearing of helmets at 1:00 am? It is the responsibility of the rider because he/she is going to be directly affected.

    • mark simon UNITED STATES says:

HOW DO YOU KNOW THEY WERN’T WEARING HELMETS?

I HELMETKEEPS YOU FROM BUSTING YOUR HEAD OPEN BUT IT CAN’T SAVE YOU FROM BRAIN INJURIES IF YOU HIT YOUR HEAD REAL HARD.

    • Fulano de Tal UNITED STATES says:

I missed the part where the article mentioned anything about helmets. Kindly enlighten me. Do you think the quality of helmets sold in our local stores meets internationally recommended standards??? If so why our policemen still have vests made of cardboard. Go figure, if the madministration cannot adequately equip our policemen/women do you think they will worry about helmet quality.

    • SandHurst First GUYANA says:

      Uncle Ulric………………PETS BELONG INDOORS………………..

    • sagga CAYMAN ISLANDS says:

Where in the article implied that a helmet was not worn? I guess that is problem with Guyanese always looking for a quick fix, the dogs place were on a leash or in a kennel,I dont see why wearing a helmet should be blamed for persons who has a pet and are irresponsible assuming that no dogs were there for this guy to swerve from he probably would have been on his merry way and you won,t have had any comments. Come on call a spade a spade.

    • billp CANADA says:

Guess i miss that part of the article that states he was’nt wearing a helmet.Could it not be he was also speeding?

  2. LoveGT4Real TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS says:

Wonder what the statistics is like with regards to the number of Guyanese who died trying to avoid hitting animals.

    My sympathies to the family.

    • Mme Defarge GUYANA says:

Such a tragedy. I know, I always pray to God to let me kill no living thing, not even a dog. The other day I felt badly not being able to avoid driving over a poor woman’s umbrella which fell in the middle of the road.

  3. colin GUYANA says:

LIKE THE MINIBUS SITUATION , LIKE THE PIRACY SITUATION, LIKE THE COPYRIGHT SITUATION, LIKE THE ANIMALS ON THE STREET SITUATION , IT SEEMS LIKE SOME THINGS WILL NEVER CHANGE IN GUYANA. MAYBE WE ARE STILL TOO BACKWARD OR JUST PLAIN INEPT AND STOOOPID.

  4. LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

NEVER try to avoid hitting any animal in the streets, people yes, animals no,,,, animals can be replaced, a human life is lost forever.

    • billp CANADA says:

Obviously you’re not an animal lover or a pet owner. We’re all god’s creations, and as such all lives are precious.

    • Davo TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO says:

Boy like you never had to deal with a crazy horse, that nearly lick me up a few years ago, up the Eastbank.
Every time I drive in Guyana I have to reset and slowdown, as animals on our roads seems to be part of our culture like peperpot and cookup.
I have never seen a dog catcher in GT, and since the 80s or 90s they stop collecting unattended, cows, donkeys, goats, pigs, horses, etc……………..and transporting them to Moblissa…or some where the famers will appreciate their valve.
Statistics will show that a significant amount of carnage, and destruction to property on the Guyana road, can be attributed to stray animals.
This is one fixable area which the authorities are neglecting to the detriment of my innocent countrymen who can ill afford the repairs if they survive.
Also we need to understand that in the best of conditions motorcycles is a very dangerous form of transportation.

  5. M. Xiu Quan-Balgobind-Hackett UNITED KINGDOM says:

Dogs should be in yards or indoors or in the dog pound or at the GSPCA, not on the streets. I speak from experience. I was attacked by dogs twice on RHT streets. My dogs are always kept in the yard. Always. Always. Always.

  6. warlard 187 UNITED STATES says:

Dogs should B in de yard. or tied up, or somtin ,not running wild, now a man lost his life. The owner of the dogs should be hold responsible. If it has an owner.

  7. ulric UNITED STATES says:

My, my, a pet lover you are not. ISNM

  8. SOESDYKE CANADA says:

If a dog run in front of my van. I am sorry for it, because I have seen first hand, what can happen. When you try to avoid them, many people end up DEAD.

  9. SandHurst First GUYANA says:

Uncle Ulric………….pets belong inside………and you should know this too………..you are living in the states where there are laws for dumb animals.

  10. dove UNITED STATES says:

aaah just genaralizing my friend and not only talking about wearing helmets @ 1.00 am. it is not enforced regardless if it is four day morning or late @ night. no one is blaming anyone only mention it because if they were made to wear safety gear it would become a habit and may or may not help.

senseless loss of life that is!

  11. freespeech UNITED STATES says:

lees medical cost on the tax payers.

  12. LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

John,,,MOST people who die in motor cycle accidents die from a broken neck,,,a Helmit provides a false sense of security that’s all.

  13. dove UNITED STATES says:

please read my comment above “only generalizing” – don’t shoot me and ah don’t want to get off base with the endless back and forth debate about something that really does not matter at this point because it will not bring back de dead. “only speculating”

    “one love”

  14. John Smith GUYANA says:

I love animals but there is no way I am going to risk my life and the lives of other people because of a stray animal.

You are righ, Sand-Hurst, pets belong indoors and all those animals we have roaming the streets are pests and they are their because of some irresponsible human. I think Ulric jumps down your throat for no reason sometimes.

  15. LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

Or as in this case CHINESE food,,,LOL.

  16. LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

Yu know something yu DEAD right, i hit a jackass one night on the East Coast public road one night while on vacation in 2002,and I will never forget the damage that ass did to my Uncle’s car, but safe to say it could have been worse, I could have swerved and end up dead in a trench, with NO LIGHTS on them roads.

  17. LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

In Guyana everything goes, first off a poor country like little Guyana cannot afford proper Police equipment, I don’t know if you know this but bullet proof kavlar vests have a life,,,, they have to be replaced every 5 years, thats when the material starts to break down and starts to deteorate, same goes for other safety equipment, so you have to live with a false sense of security to take you through the day.
