“I didn’t steal no bicycle, your worship, I went to buy weed for the owner,” a 40-year-old man told Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday.

Owen Sultan of 31 Guyhoc Park, Georgetown pleaded guilty to the charge of larceny when it was read to him at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. However, he requested an opportunity to give the court an explanation.

It is alleged that on September 13 at Duncan Street, Campbellville Sultan stole one gent’s mountain climber bicycle worth $13,500.

Sultan, during his explanation to the court, said he worked with the owner of the bicycle and on the day in question he left to purchase marijuana for the owner. According to Sultan, he was riding back to the man’s house with the marijuana when a police van pulled up.

“De police pull up and I drop de bicycle and run away,” Sultan said.

After listening to the man’s explanation Magistrate Robertson entered a not guilty plea on his behalf. Sultan was granted bail in the sum of $20,000 and he has to return to Court Two on December 22.

what an idiot……if you did not steal the bicycle,,,why is it you run away……he should have told the police the truth and they should have traced him and if his employer did send him to buy drugs ….as soon as it was handed over they should have arrested him for drugs and false report….

This is what the police should have done, except they were not thinking that far. The magistrate seemed to believe some of what he is saying… either that or she was in a very good mood.

    • The wise Preacher want’s to know isn’t it a still a crime to buy drugs in Guyana . And why would one want to add an old house to an old house they both will crumble dowm .
Why show the police the drugs and make it worse for yourself knowing that you have already be accused for stealing . It dosen’t make sense to me for him to admit to the police the truth and have the police trace him to see if his emplyoer did send him to buy drugs this man appears to be of age and i the wise preacher believe he know right from wrong .

True Guyanese the man is not an idiot, that is guyana. You have drugs in your possession and you see the police, will you stick around to explain about who sent you to get it? Be real, anyone under such circumstances will definitely show them a clean pair of heels.
