To Ann and quibian - I reckon you're both off track - read Rupman's comment again if you must.

To Rupman - Karasabai and its neighbouring villages depended on income made from peanuts but again - the lack of much needed support, transport and now good buyers contribute to the poor economy experienced there.

To Rupununi man - the majority of people in Karasabai and neighbouring villages walk- not many can affort a bicycle.

rupman, have you seen any one of the favellas[ slums] of brazil? i agree that people should have all modern amenities but then again these people live in a remote area which is not easy to service. also their primary means of transportation is by boat and not by road.

In response to Rupman Brazil need to spend more money to get rid of all the poor, homeless, hungry and sick children living on the streets. We have a lot of problems Guyana but we don't have World Vision sponsoring any of our children and we don't have a high rate of street children as there is in Brazil.

WEATHER AMERINDIANS, NEGROES OR EAST INDIANS, WE ARE ALL GUYANESE. I, AGREE WITH AMEN-RA. TRANSPORTATION IS VERY IMPORTANT IN ANY COMMUNITY. WHOSOEVER THEY VOTED FOR, THAT'S THEIR CHOICE. BUT GOOD ROADS, POTABLE WATER, TELECOMMUNICATIONS, SCHOOLS & EFFICIENT ELECTRICTY, ARE ALL VERY IMPORTANT ISSUES IN ANY COMMUNITY. I SINCERELY HOPE THAT THESE GUYANESE THAT'S LIVING IN THESE REMOTE AREAS WILL SOON REALIZE THE ABOVE SERVICES.

A few miles from Karasabai (approx 20 mins drive) on the Brazilian side is a small town called Normandia. This community has all of the infrastructure of a developed town; paved roads, 24 hrs electricity, top class schools and sports facilties, banks etc.

If you strain the eyes to see pass the outskirts of Normandia it is almost like the Rupununi with the Ite trees, swamps and broad expanse of savannas.

It makes you wonder why communities like Karasabai can't have similar development like Normandia. Is it simply a lack of resources or vision?

Normandia's main form of income is rice farming. Can't Karasabai undertake something similar?

This is down right shameful. What a terrible way to treat the indigenous people of GY. Unacceptable! Gives new meaning to the phrase “out of sight and out of mind.”

The government need to spend and develop the roads in region 9 so all these villages can start to sustain themselves by being accessable to other villages to do trading. The people only need infrastructure and will be able to sustain themselves without constantly begging government for handouts.
