A suspected thief is in police custody after being caught by public-spirited citizens following the robbery of a woman on Thomas Street, South Cummingsburg on Sunday night.

Around 8 pm on Sunday, Samantha Humphrey was standing on Thomas Street when she was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a knife, police said in a statement.

The men held her up and took away a cellular phone along with $6,000 and escaped. Humphrey raised an alarm and public-spirited persons who went to her assistance chased the two perpetrators and caught one of them. The man was handed over to the police but had to get treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
He was then taken into custody.

Way to go Guyana!!! This is the first time I have read in SN that ordinary Guyanese have chased criminals and performed a citizen’s arrest.
Wonderful news and with this great news, let us hope that maybe this patriotism will catch on.

The ‘light squeezing :-) ‘ which appears to have been used on the criminal should be followed by a couple of nights in the Brickdam Hilton until he confesses the address of his partner in crime.

Thereafter the court should double his previous sentence until he has learned to get a regular job.
