A suspected thief is in police custody after being caught by public-spirited citizens following the robbery of a woman on Thomas Street, South Cummingsburg on Sunday night.

Around 8 pm on Sunday, Samantha Humphrey was standing on Thomas Street when she was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a knife, police said in a statement.

The men held her up and took away a cellular phone along with $6,000 and escaped. Humphrey raised an alarm and public-spirited persons who went to her assistance chased the two perpetrators and caught one of them. The man was handed over to the police but had to get treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
He was then taken into custody.

Kudos to the public–spirited citizens for doing their civic duty by apprehending one of the bandits; but to engage in “vigilante” justice is unacceptable. When the GPF engage in this practice… everyone cries torture and want the cops heads…when the public does it …it is called “roughing–up” and is considered acceptable. What a double standard. It seems the “modus operandi” of public-spirited citizens is to make sure you end up in the hospital before they hand you over to the GPF.

It’s called “go with de flow.” If one man holla out torture, a lot of people start fellin pain even if they didn’t get any licks. If someone say “tek wa you deserve” people listening gon say “he shouda dead”…people just can’t mek up them own mind.

Again I say. Once the populace exhibits this resolve against criminals, crime will go down. I assure you , the ratio of criminals to law abiding citizens is five to every two hundred. How can five cowards cause us two hundred problems, we will get rid of the scourge once united.
