A suspected thief is in police custody after being caught by public-spirited citizens following the robbery of a woman on Thomas Street, South Cummingsburg on Sunday night.

Around 8 pm on Sunday, Samantha Humphrey was standing on Thomas Street when she was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a knife, police said in a statement.

The men held her up and took away a cellular phone along with $6,000 and escaped. Humphrey raised an alarm and public-spirited persons who went to her assistance chased the two perpetrators and caught one of them. The man was handed over to the police but had to get treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
He was then taken into custody.

it is great to see this criminal got the “essequibo” treatment. in essequibo when criminals like these are caught, especially if they are not from essequibo, this is the kind of treatment they get and handed over to the police.

Heard an old story about a bandit who was cornered by public spirited citizens. He dashed into a Police Station, shouting for help.Case closed. From that day on his life changed.Always told people that the Police saved his life.Reformed “Thief Man”.

Berry I do hope you are aware that four persons were recently charged for killing a known thief.Unnecessary and extreme force is not the way to go.”Ruffing Up”may be appropriate, depending on the circumstances.

  5. Caesar Agustus UNITED STATES says:

Very nice. This should be happening all over Guyana. Ahem, the accused thief was, shall we say,not neuralized but tenderized, before being handed over to the police. Whetre he may also be “roughed up.”

  6. cops GUYANA says:

    good for him

  7. lenshaw UNITED STATES says:

the man should be arrested and placed before a court of law,not beaten up by citizens in the street,we do not need street justice,he should also be afforded legal representation

  8. ralphy BAHAMAS says:

Right On! I love. If we have more public -spirited people like that, petty theft would be eradicated

  9. ultimate w CANADA says:

Well done, you make a good comedy team and had me laughing uncontrollably for a good two minutes.. This is a serious discussion but I love the irony of the various inputs to the blog.

    Lenshaw:

What you are talking about is dealing with criminals in a society that adheres to the rule of law. In Guyana, chances are that if the public had not apprehended this man (and he had not accidentally fallen and injured himself) he nor his accomplice would ever have been caught, hence there would not have been any likelihood of him appearing before a court of law nor requiring legal representation. Street justice is exactly what is needed to deal with the run away crime situation that exists in Guyana. The police need whatever assistance they can get from the public.

Is Richard Lewis you real real name? You prapa brave man, supporting citizen brutality and police brutality and putting you real real name! Most bloggers who support this kind a brutality does hide behind pseudonyms because they know one a dese days the might go to answer a question on some form or application whether dem bin eva support any form of brutality or torture in any medium…
