A suspected thief is in police custody after being caught by public-spirited citizens following the robbery of a woman on Thomas Street, South Cummingsburg on Sunday night.
Around 8 pm on Sunday, Samantha Humphrey was standing on Thomas Street when she was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a knife, police said in a statement.
The men held her up and took away a cellular phone along with $6,000 and escaped. Humphrey raised an alarm and public-spirited persons who went to her assistance chased the two perpetrators and caught one of them. The man was handed over to the police but had to get treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
He was then taken into custody.

I am so please that he got a good beating sorry he did not get a whole lot more because as far as I see it when you take the law in your own hand justice is served because these criminals just pass through and come rite back out to do the same crime.

I speak my mind and try to stay within the realms of reality, and I say (tongue in cheek) that since nothing else seems to be working in Guyana to allay the fears of locals and visitors alike against the destruction being caused by a few lunatics who prefer to rob than seek a meaningful existence, then catching and roughing them up should be given a try. And here I am not advocating killing anyone, just administering a good roughing up and then handing them over to the police for a further roughing up in the lock up at the Brickdam Police Station. On being sentenced to jail they should then be made to encounter the cat-o-nine-tails for a further roughing up. The person administering lashes with the cat-o-nine tails should be no less than the victim of the robery or attempted robery.
