The accident occurred at approximately 8:40 am and involved minibus BLL 4207 and motorcar PGG 5268. The driver of the car, 51-year-old Wendy Mitchell, was admitted to the hospital with a broken right leg and lacerations about her body.

According to her son Gavin Mitchell, his mother was proceeding west along Carifesta Avenue when a cyclist attempted to cross the road. In her attempt to avoid the cyclist she lost control of the vehicle and it spun into the path of the minibus which collided with her.

After the collision, her car ended up in the trench in front of Marian Academy, while the bus ended up in the canal outside the Guyana Legion headquarters. The cyclist reportedly left the scene of the accident after the collision Stabroek News was told.

Alvin Frank, the driver of the minibus, said he had just pulled off from the corner of Camp Road and Carifesta Avenue and was proceeding east when the car suddenly span out of control in front of him. He said that despite his best efforts he was unable to avoid hitting the car.

Frank said he did not know whether a cyclist was involved. Most of the passengers of the bus were taken to the hospital for checks.

At the time the accident occurred, the road was wet following torrential early morning rainfall.
Meanwhile, the conductor of the bus Shawn Ashley lamented that after the accident, persons who claimed they were assisting attempted to steal the tape deck and other valuables form the bus. Two men were apprehended and were taken into police custody, this newspaper was told.

Thank god no one was killed. However it is pathetic to imagine that at this juncture individuals with that warped criminal mentality would seek to steal items from the vehicle rather than assist those injured. What SPECIE of animals are they?

    • Leslyn UNITED STATES says:

The ones with no sense of decency — unfrotunately they are in the majority. Sad but true; the days of helping the injured seems to be a thing of the past. Which raises the question: What does this say about us as a society? Frighten, isn’t it? May God help us.

    • jaguarjeff UNITED STATES says:

god help those that help themselves.Sad that people were hurt but it’s the holiday season. everyone needs help

  2. true guyanese UNITED STATES says:

thank god no was killed or seriously hurt…..thanks to those who help to get the injured out and take them to the hospital.. hope every one gets well soon… but those holligangs who claim they were helping and trying to steal should be jail….what a shame…thats the mentality of some of our people…..

    • Spanky UNITED STATES says:

I’m just sick and tired of all you people, calling Guyanes people, criminal, holligangs, disgrace, backwards, and all the horrible names you can come up with.

      true guyanese, that’s not the mentality of some of our peopel, it’s the mentality that is being forced on our people. I said it already and I’m gonna say it again;

If some of you were living in Guyana with no way out, no outside help from families living overseas, and can’t get a job that you can survive on and with the don’t care Gov’t Guyana has, try to imagine which one of thoes names you all are calling thoes people, we would be calling you.

Stop blaming the Guyanese people for the conditions they are forced to live in….And for all of you who likes to say that I’m in favor of what they are doing, NO I’m not, but I’m not gonna sit there and judge them when the facts are starring us right in our faces.

My last vist to Guyana, I had to go pay a fine, for driving a car with tinted windows, there were children under the ages of 10 in there some with school clothes on, for stealin bora and food items to take home, they weren’t stealing clothes and electronic. I’m pretty sure lots of you lost clothing and other stuff in your homes when you went on vacation, and you know it was some member of your family, we all experienced it, you grew up with these people, could you believe they would have done that to you.

I’m pretty sure the heads of Guyana reads these comments and boy they must be glad when they see that they aren’t getting blame for poor jobs there’er doing, it must warm their hearts to know that you people think that Guyanese are a bunch of uneducated idots, criminals, worthless people, and shouldn’t be worried about….

    • Spanky UNITED STATES says:

True Guyanese how could it not make no sense, maybe not to you, bet it would have, if it was happening to you, and I never said it give them the right to do what there’re doing,(mentioned im my comment) but I am laughing my ass off (lmao) when you said you would go around begging.

How many beggers are in the streets of Guyana, I guess only you can see the outpouring of help their getting, I’m sure they would have keeped a spot for you and your kids, (if you have any) on the sidewalks downtown.

And when you all are finished with your daily begging, just hold hands and walk with pride and then take a trip with the money you walk around all day begging for and don’t forget to smile!!!!

The disgrace Guyanese people, are the the Gov’t for turning their backs on the people who they are suppose to be working for. Thanks for the laugh, you’re funny.

  3. Annover UNITED STATES says:

Thank god nobody die, shame on those criminal.

  4. GEORGIA ON MY MIND UNITED STATES says:

Spanky I totally agree with your blog, you said it as it is and that is the bottom line. We should be blaming the government for the situation in Guyana not the people because they have to survive and they are no jobs out there for them to do.

    Live In Love
    Peace Out

    • LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

Well,,, let them migrate, afterall we did and look what happened, but don’t kill innocent people that you don’t even know. Most of us including myself came from poverty, I never slept on a bed, nor had a pair of shoes until I came to the USA, but I never killed anyone to survive, I was always hungry in Guyana, and if people remember me, my nickname was “yards”, “boneyards”…lol.

  5. East Bank Gal UNITED STATES says:

Spanky when all that is said and done, there is still shame on the thiefing holligans.

    • Spanky UNITED STATES says:

I applaud you for being the only person in the world that never stole a thing in your life time!!!

  6. SWAT UNITED STATES says:

Spanky I absolutely agree with you. It is these same bloggers who, on one hand, would “praise” those so called public-spirited citizens for “beating” a thief they apprehend…but would now call those same “so called” public-spiritied citizens animals, hooligans, crimnals etc…when they try to assist the injured. You cannot have it both ways. Both situations are wrong. Period!

    • true guyanese UNITED STATES says:

swat we are talking about the holligans who pretend to be helper and were trying to rob the injured insted of helping them

    • dove UNITED STATES says:

are you saying you are going to commit crime if you hit rock bottom!

  7. dove UNITED STATES says:

    everyone have an opinion!

  8. Berbice CANADA says:

Thank God nobody got serious injuries!

  9. quibian CANADA says:

how many of these people “out of a job” are willing to go cut cane? not many i guess. y’all know why? because they are lazy. it is inexcusable for people pretending to help people involved in a crash to rob them. shame on all of you who defend criminals like these with excuses that they don’t have a job.

  10. Ankoko UNITED STATES says:

Whether someone steals to satisfy hunger or for other purposes – IT IS STILL STEALING!!.
I agree that the plight of Guyanese resident in Guyana is not all the cause of their direct doing they must take their share of the blame!!. They failed to control their destiny. If they put enough pressure on the
‘polytrickians’ there has to come the ideological and other changes necessary for the country’s growth.
It is important because the ‘overseas money well’ drying up!
The relatives in the US and Canada etc, aren’t earning to support tthe terrible times there now!
