Sadly, this cycle has to run its course until it reaches critical mass and something terrible happens and the course is changed. What the govt should really be encouraging is the movement to higher ground. A substantial part of the yearly funds to fight flooding should be allocated to building communities on higher ground, which is even close by to GT on the Soesdyke region. Georgetown could still remain a business centre but the govt could fund mass transit such as a train system to move people from GT to those areas.

Most of Guyana’s population, industries, agriculture, commerce, trade, civil infrastructure, political and economic institutions etc; are on the low costal areas below sea level; the implications and consequence for Guyanese, of these dire forecasts and warnings are not only real but troubling.

The billion dollar question is: what are the plans and contingency policy of the political administration, to move the coastal population, industry, commerce, civilian infrastructure etc; to higher grounds and the large uninhabited, fertile and untapped interior areas of the country.
