Chairman of the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) Yesu Persaud donated more than $800,000 to the Dharm Shala and Cheshire Home on Christmas Eve.

The chairman celebrated his 80th birthday on October 17 and in observance of the occasion he requested that his well-wishers donate money to the above mentioned charities.

“…there is much that I have achieved in my life but I still think there is more left for me to do and making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate has always been has always been one of my lifelong commitments,” Persaud said during the presentation.

Harry Ramsaroop, Head and Treasurer of the Dharm Shala, said that the donation will be used for the nutritional, physical and social support of the home’s inmates. Wendy Alves, a nurse aide at the Cheshire Home, also expressed thanks.

    Yesu Persaud always giving back to humanity and the larger community. Yet Jagdeo has the gaul to cuss out this guy. Nothing presidential about that guy!!!

    Another commendable act !

    Mr. Yesu Persaud, embody the entrepreneural spirit and success story of the private sector, he represents the ‘antithesis’ of communism, state control and authoritarianism; and it is for this reason, he has also been attacked in other instances, by a number of the PPP’s communist ideological zealots.

    well ! this same yesu persaud was the one that petition the american government against giving aid to guyana unless mr hoyte agreed to overseas observers for the elections. he had a grouse with hoyte over the way he was handling the company that the government was the majority shareholder. now he is getting what he deserves from the ppp that he helped put into power.

      Mr. Yesu Persaud’s principe position, in relation to democratic elections and accountable and transparent governance, is valid, irrespective, of the individual(s) or political party in government.

      Mr. Persaud, should be commended for his principled position.
