The Minister of the Year is Ms Priya Manickchand

Dear Editor,

If there were an award for Minister of the Year, I would without hesitation nominate Minister Priya Manickchand. She has stamped her authority on her ministry and with an affable personality has reached out to all and sundry.

Her achievement with the Old Age Pension books is commendable, and her department’s work with the needy, homeless, school children (truants), etc, are other accomplishments.

The latest is her draft legislation on domestic violence and rape that she has put a lot of energy into by reaching out to all the districts of the country to explain her paper. To see her get a standing ovation in Linden is unbelievable, but it says something about the individual. May God grant her good health and enable her to continue her good works in 2008.

Yours faithfully,
