The suggestion to extend the incentive package to visit Kaieteur Falls is welcome

Dear Editor,

I would like to thank Leon Suseran for his letter captioned “Government should extend the subsidy for trips to Kaieteur into the New Year.” I am glad that he totally enjoyed his visit to the majestic Kaieteur Falls and took the time to share his experience through the press.

I am sure that Leon Suseran would be very surprised to know that the Kaieteur Incentive Package was a challenge by Minister Prashad to members of the private sector. Following the round table conference on “Moving Guyana’s Tourism Forward” representatives of Air Services, Rainforest Tours and the Kaieteur National Park decided to launch the package so that more Guyanese can visit the falls. Since the launching of the package some 400 persons have visited the falls through the incentive package. Of course, there were also visits by tourists who paid the regular fee of $40,000 on weekdays.

Mr. Suseran’s suggestion to extend the package is most welcome. The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce is currently in discussion with members of the private sector to see how best the incentive package can be extended to accommodate the large number of Guyanese who want to visit the falls.

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce would like to thank Mr. Suseran and the others who have written about their experience at Kaieteur Falls and invite them to meet with members of our team for further discussion.

Yours faithfully,

Esther Sukhraj
