Dear Editor,

I went on the 3rd January to the Passport Office only to be told by the security guard that the office will be closed for the day. Why didn’t the Passport Office inform the public in advance?

I went again on Friday 4th January leaving home on both days at 2 o’clock in the morning. I was not given a number. At the gate Officer Williams told me that I have to get a birth certificate.

Again why was the public not informed? Going to the GPO building a clerk told me I can obtain a new birth certificate for $4,000 which will take two weeks. I had to pay $3,000 return fare for each day.

Will the Minister of Home Affairs go to see the long line that is there. When we get there we are told that only 75 people will be accommodated for a day. It seems as if people will have to go and camp by the Passport Office overnight.

Yours faithfully,

K. Singh
