And now what is to be done?

Dear Editor,

And now what? After all the appropriate things have been said, the platitudinous and sincere; after all the proper poses have been cast, what is to be done?

What is to be done by ordinary people and government alike to make Guyanese children feel more hopeful about the future, and less powerless? What is to be done to root out crippling, unbounded violence, which does seem to cause more hurt to Indo-Guyanese than other ethnic groups?

If Guyanese continue this languid march in which voices for concrete and lasting change make no impact – well, I’ll leave you to ponder our bright future as One People, One Nation, with One Destiny.

Yours faithfully,

Will J McDonald
