Our leaders must be fully accountable

Dear Editor,

We must hold our leaders accountable. In a democracy, the people are sovereign-they are the highest form of political authority. Power flows from the people to the leaders of government, who hold power only temporarily. It’s the people who put this government in power and it’s the same people who can remove them from office. It’s time for a change, the people must assemble freely to protest government incompetence to handle the crisis that has been an ongoing problem for over a decade now.

The killing fields of the East Coast, Georgetown and other parts of Guyana must end now. If the Government can’t protect us, who will? President Bharrat Jagdeo (Commander in Chief) must take appropriate action urgently.

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls; Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit; Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Yours faithfully,

Amit Albion
