I support a positive immigration policy

Dear Editor,

In her letter captioned “We should open our doors to immigrants to overcome our racial divide” (08.02.07) Joycelyn Williams suggested that Guyana import a third neutral population that can dilute the racial focus of our two parties that affects development. There are refugees and people from other countries that may find Guyana a better option than staying in the situation they are in now. We need farmers to develop our unused lands, teachers, certain skilled workers, medical and security personnel. Some people like Filipinos and Cubans may be interested under the right circumstances. International Organizations may help to make this possible. We should continuously seek these skills from overseas individuals no matter where they come from, including Guyanese.

Yours faithfully,
